Lucy Entwhistle's beloved father has just died; aged twenty-two she finds herself alone in the world. This middle-aged man is also in mourning - for his wife Vera, who has died in mysterious circumstances. Delightful juxtaposition of Edwardian society and a nasty narcissist

The prelude chapter with background on the author sets the scene for this period piece. “Vera” translates beautifully to an audio book: effective descriptions of setting and characters, and a sense of foreboding that builds without gore or violence.
Nicki Paul has a soothing voice as well as great talent in representing the different classes via accent.
I wish the story were longer so we could learn if the villain got what he deserved.
This book also piqued my interest in reading more by Elizabeth von Armin
