A traumatized antisocial orphan girl makes for quite the main character to spend time with. Having restless dead of many types as what she has to face off against with her only ally as a different and questionably trustworthy restless dead trapped in a holy artifact all makes for a gripping story that's hard to put down. It's a pretty intense setting overall and well written in terms of giving you all you need to understand the circumstances of the world while keeping the story moving and holding your interest.
There is a lot to like. The revenant in the holy artifact she has is very interesting and there is a great back and forth between them. There is the theme of persistence through hopeless seeming odds which is easy to get behind.
For how integral restless dead are to the story it's also not nearly as dark and bleak as it could be. It's more of a fun type of creepy than a horrifying type of creepy.
The writing and narration gets you really immersed in everything going on quite quickly and easily. All the story elements are handled very well and flow along smoothly to a satisfying conclusion with great payoff.
