A Green Beret's gripping memoir of American Special Forces in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War.
In 1970, on his second tour to Vietnam, Nick Brokhausen served in Recon Team Habu, CCN. Officially, it was known as the Studies and Observations group. In fact, this Special Forces squad, which Brokhausen calls "an unwashed, profane, ribald, joyously alive fraternity", undertook some of the most dangerous and suicidal reconnaissance missions ever in the enemy-controlled territory of Cambodia and Laos.
But they didn't infiltrate the jungles alone. They fought alongside the Montagnards - oppressed minorities from the mountain highlands, trained by the US military in guerrilla tactics, armed, accustomed to the wild, and fully engaged in a war against the North Vietnamese.
Together, this small unit formed the backbone of ground reconnaissance in the Republic of Vietnam, racking up medals for valor - but at a terrible cost.

The small recon companies that were the center of its activities conducted some of the most dangerous missions of the war, infiltrating areas controlled by the North Vietnamese in Laos, Vietnam, and Cambodia. The companies never exceeded more than 30 Americans, yet they were the best source for the enemy's disposition.

Great Memoir
This was a great listen in my opinion. I found it after listening to band of brothers and was not disappointed. I kind of wish it was longer, the ending was good, but felt rushed. I really appreciate these kind of books, it's like a time machine in a sense and I'm very grateful for the experience I've had listening to this book. highly recommend.

A interesting look into the war
I enjoyed this book. The narrator was fairly decent as well. Gives a good unbiased viewpoint from the author on a war that probably didn't make sense to a lot of soldiers. A good mix of humor and surrealism.

One of the best audio books I have.
This audio book is amazing. It is full of action and humor. The narrator does an amazing job on his performance. This book has made me laugh alot. I also have enjoyed the many stories of combat in this book. This is some of the best writing that I have ever seen. This is legitimatly a five star book.

stunning account and humorously written .
Thoroughly enjoyed this account of special forces in Vietnam. The audio presentation was one of the best I've heard. I'd very much like to find the companion to "we few". I'd highly recommend this audio book to all that find the topics interesting.

takes you right into the bush

I absolutely love this book
incredible book. I loved the raw stories of his tome in Vietnam but he also has an amazing way to add humor in the way he tells his experiences. I finished the book in about 2 days because I was so enthralled. I highly recommend it!

Ok
Interesting stories and lots of action. The author though was overly amused with his turn of phrase and tried to inject too much darkly irreverent and sarcastic humour which detracted from the story.
