À propos de cet audio
In July 2015, Mary Yoder returned home from the chiropractic center that she operated with her husband, Bill, complaining that she felt unwell. Mary, health-conscious and vibrant, was suddenly vomiting, sweating, and weak. Doctors in the ER and ICU were baffled as to the cause of her rapidly progressing illness. Her loved ones - including Bill and their children, Adam, Tamryn, and Liana - gathered in shock to say good-bye.
In the weeks that followed Mary's death, the grief-stricken family received startling news from the medical examiner: Mary had been deliberately poisoned with colchicine. Another bombshell followed when the local sheriff's office received a claim that Adam Yoder had poisoned his mother. But Adam was not the only person of interest in the case.
Pretty and popular Kaitlyn Conley, Adam's ex-girlfriend, worked at the Yoders' clinic. She'd even been at Mary's bedside during those last terrible hours. Still, some spoke of her talent for manipulation and a history of bizarre, rage-fueled behavior against anyone who dared to reject her. Had Kaitlyn and Adam conspired to kill Mary Yoder, or was the killer someone else entirely?
Contains mature themes.

Love m William Phelps books.
But this one doesn't work well as an audiobook because it is constantly jumping from present to pay without it being really clear what's happening when... Maybe it's just my brain but it was a challenge! 😉

Awkward Storytelling Structure
Investigative Journalist and True Crime (Television & Podcast) mainstay M. William Phelps clearly researched this book extensively.. including meticulous descriptions of forensic evidence presented at trial and background biographical information for every (even peripheral) individual involved in the case. That attention to detail really enriches the narrative. Additionally, the writing is uncommonly clear and Phelps impressively makes a relatively "routine" murder somehow captivating.
Unfortunately, Phelps also jumps around from timeline to timeline and between investigator/suspect/witness storylines with abandon. Each shift in POV is so abrupt that it takes a few seconds for the reader to become reoriented.
Distinctly "average" narration from Danny Campbell doesn't help the situation, either. Don't get me wrong - Campbell reads with unquestionably professional diction, cadence, pacing, voice-acting, and tone.. but his old-man-like quavering timbre requires setting playback speed at 1.10X for tolerability (listen to the Sample before purchase). Tantor Audio Inc. could have cast this project better.
Altogether, 'We Thought We Knew You' merits 7 stars out of 10. It's a perfectly serviceable audiobook if you can get it as a 'Plus' selection - but better options beckon should Audible ask for a Credit. If you're dead set on consuming the book, stick to a text version (paragraph breaks would doubtless be easier to identify in a paper or eBook iteration).

Too long
The narrator's voice did not match the story. A clearer voice would help.
The story could be shortened. It sounded more like a long Podcast rather than a book.
