Great story - with problems

I loved the story and the characters. Oates develops the characters very well in my mind. The storyline is excellent, but leading up to "it", I found myself getting extremely annoyed at the length of time it takes to actually reach what is obviously going to happen.
I also hated the southern accents that the narrater incorporates for the Mulvaney parents. Not sure why he thought that made sense. At first I was waiting for some twist in the story that would explain the accents, but clearly it was just a massive problem in narration.
Overall, great story with some serious problems that I did manage to overcome. Glad I made it to the end.
