I was hoping for so much more here - the narrator was good and had a fantastic cadence while reading. The story plot line was not great, super sad to use a credit on this.

I am disappointed because I liked the beginning of the book a lot. The world building potential was there but the characters were shallow and the dialogue was repetitive. Any growth the protagonist had was offset by the love interest becoming increasingly controlling in what felt at the end like an abusive dynamic. The constant use of her belittling pet name was aggravating and unnecessary. I stuck it out to the end but I don’t feel a pull to move on to book 2

Well this was a book I listened to. The narrator wasn't bad - she does a good job of different character voices. But the story and characters. meh. If you are into books with unpredictable twists and character development this is not the book for you. If you think that Jennifer Armentrout is the best thing since sliced bread then this may be the book for you - annoying characters that do stupid things for no reason and have the personality of a wet sponge.

The second book is even worse and I am close to DNF. There just may be a reason this book is free....

A very meh book

The author does a great job of revealing the world of the fae to us slowly, through our heroine’s eyes. I am intrigued to see where she takes us next.

If you like romance where there are fated lovers, this one is for you. He wants her, she’s too broken and tired of being battered by life to say yes. She is afraid to give in, but wants to. It seems right, but she just can’t.

Great performance! I am looking forward to the sequel Oct 25th.

Slow burn romance that keeps you hooked

It was an action packed start for the first half of the book which captivated my attention. Unfortunately, the story started to dwindle and became repetitive. The protagonist weakened and became whiny. The male lead was controlling in a way that did not feel empowering but rather made the female lead submissive. While the second book might redeem this flaw, I am not motivated to read it.

So this book definitely could use a trigger warning ⚠️ ** the first few chapters is all about the lead character trying to avoid the unwanted sexual advances from an older man of power who has been grooming her since she was 7 years old. She was subjected to physical abuse sexual harassment by him***

I actually almost gave up on the book an hour into it because I just felt so sickened by her experiences with this nobleman.

It’s an interesting world the humans live on the opposite side of a vail that keeps them separated from the fae who they believe are all monsters.

The humans all try to live a very religious lifestyle which they believe keeps the veil up. Her father’s life was taken by the religious leaders as they believed the veil needed blood once a year.

Just as she was to be killed for the veil it fell and the fae could return and people died. She fled with her brother because marks began to show on her skin meaning she was to become a faes mate. The human army was killing any human with that symbol and the fae were taking them if they got ahold of any.

She met someone who she thought was like her well her brother & her were hiding, her brother didn’t trust him so they left and were attacked and her brother died.

So she stayed with the man all the while you have a feeling he is her mate by his obsession with her.

There’s more unwanted sexual advances, fighting, uneasy feelings that she doesn’t know much about him and that something is off.

It kinda felt weird that she was so stupid that she couldn’t put two and two together about him being her mate and him wanting to kill anyone who looked at her.

There’s the big reveal in the end and by the story of who he actually is you can’t help but feel for him.

It’s good but not great it definitely has potential

The plot premise of this book was good but the execution didn’t hit. I couldn’t connect with the FMC and the love interest reminded me of an abusive relationship. Also, the pet name “little one” had me cringing. There’s copious amounts of spice I this book but not much plot. Wasn’t my favourite.

Had Potential But…

The idea was interesting, but the execution was drawn out. I also had a hard time connecting with the female lead, so it also made it hard to get into/ care about the storyline. :-/

Not my cup of tea

The story idea is good but couldn't get over all the blatant similarities to every sjm book and several other fantasy books I've read. The court names, character names, MMC description, etc was all the same as other books and didn't feel very original and automatically made my brain compare everything to other books which made it not nearly as good and it could have been with some variation/originality. The plot twist was super obvious from the start. The spice was good def a slow burn but I like that.

trying to hard to be TOG/ACOTAR

I listened to this after coming down from the high of ACOTAR it was a nice winding down to binge listening. It fills a void and helps move to another book.
