À propos de cet audio
Longlisted for the 2016 National Book Award for Young People's Literature.
Anna-Marie McLemore's debut novel, The Weight of Feathers, was greeted with rave reviews, a YALSA Morris Award nomination, and spots on multiple "best YA novels" lists. Now McLemore delivers a second stunning and utterly romantic novel, again tinged with magic.
To everyone who knows them, best friends Miel and Sam are as strange as they are inseparable. Roses grow out of Miel's wrist, and rumors say that she spilled out of a water tower when she was five. Sam is known for the moons he paints and hangs in the trees and for how little anyone knows about his life before he and his mother moved to town.
But as odd as everyone considers Miel and Sam, even they stay away from the Bonner girls, four beautiful sisters rumored to be witches. Now they want the roses that grow from Miel's skin, convinced that their scent can make anyone fall in love. And they're willing to use every secret Miel has fought to protect to make sure she gives them up.
Atmospheric, dynamic, and packed with gorgeous prose, When the Moon Was Ours is another winner from this talented author.

Good but very odd
Before this book, I had never heard of "magical realism" and didn't know it was a genre. I was attracted to this book for it's transgender representation. I now think that magical realism isn't really my thing. The book was decent overall and I'm glad I read it. The story is told in a poetic and surreal way, with lots of metaphors and comparisons. Lots of good plot twists. The main reason I disliked it was I found it hard to follow at times due to the writing style, and because it was so unrealistic. This isn't objectively bad - it just wasn't my favourite. For someone who likes magical realism, this is probably a great book for you. I enjoyed reading about a trans character who was able to find reciprocated love.

Brilliant
Judy Bloom’s poetic successor. The imagery was amazing and the conclusion both heart clenching and heart warming!

Slow start but worth it
The beginning confused me and I was left with the thought, “I don’t know if I’m going to like this book” but I really wanted to like it. My best friend recommended it to our book club; and now, having finished it, I can see why. The unconditional love between Sam and Miel is absolutely beautiful and pulled me into the magical realism of the novel.

Thoroughly enjoyed. Great listen
A very sweet story about many types of love. As a partner of a person learning their gender identity this was very lovely to hear. I adore my partner and this story made my heart swell with pride.

They and Their
Anna-Marie McLemore is a Mexican-American author of young adult novels inspired by their background lore and fairy tales which creates a backdrop for their themes and development of inclusiveness in navigating their characters through discovery of an 2SLGBTQI+ merging world.
The writing is magical albeit there is frequent repetition and I would have to give them an award for the most metaphors. It was overall an enjoyable read and has a number or moral hurdles to bring discussion and the especially, mores that cause negative actions. The characters are well developed and we are concerned for their being to the very end.
