À propos de cet audio
A former child actress best known for her starring roles in Matilda and Mrs. Doubtfire, Mara Wilson has always felt a little young and out of place: as the only kid on a film set full of adults, the first daughter in a house full of boys, a Valley girl in New York and a neurotic in California, and a grown-up the world still remembers as a little girl. Tackling everything from what she learned about sex on the set of Melrose Place to discovering in adolescence that she was no longer "cute" enough for Hollywood, these essays chart her journey from accidental fame to relative (but happy) obscurity. They also illuminate universal struggles, like navigating love and loss and figuring out who you are and where you belong. Honest, insightful, and hilarious, Where Am I Now? introduces Mara Wilson as a brilliant new chronicler of the experience that is growing up young and female.

Fucking beautiful
This book had me in tears, from both sentimentality and hilarity. Definitely a must listen.

A hopeful, funny, feminist memoir
Mara Wilson's Where Am I Now? is a collection of stories that spans her life from her childhood in movies like Mrs. Doubtfire and Matilda to her more recent years struggling to find her place in the world as an adult and a performer. Wilson's writing is straightforward, conversational and honest - even if you didn't grow up like she did you will probably find an experience that resonates, whether it's weird childhood misconceptions about sex, highschool cliques, or mental health challenges.
I enjoyed hearing Wilson narrate the stories in her own voice, particularly the times when she (sparingly and effectively) uses accents and voices reading others' dialogue. But I think it felt a bit more serious than it would have had I just read the book. It was hard to laugh even at the funniest parts of this book when the story was being read and there was no indication whether those parts were meant to be funny. But overall I enjoyed the book and the hopeful, feminist messages therein. #Audible1

honest coming of age, wish she wrote it later on
Although I enjoyed her honesty and found stories of loss and mental health challenges relatable and refreshing, the editing of it was a bit all over the place and gappy/unresolved at times. I also felt that it doesn't have a lot of perspective as she sounds really young in voice (ie. talking about the woes of choir for longer than the death of a parent). I think that a follow up memoir later in life would allow for more reflection as at times this one sounded a bit conceited/precocious...this could have been partially due to poor editing though.

Okay
I felt as though I grew up with Mara so I wanted to hear about what’s happened in the past 15 years since she seemed to disappear from the limelight. She shares about her time on and off set as a child, mental health issues growing up, and what she’s up to now. It was good but I found the focus a little to much on artsy/hipster stuff that I just don’t know or understand. She’ll always be a winner to me though.
