À propos de cet audio
On April 15, 2011, just before dawn, a group of women from Cherán, an indigenous community located in Michoacán, confronted the loggers who were illegally destroying their forest. They acted as a collective body, defending their territory and protecting their way of life. This was the birth of a resistance group that for more than 10 years has peacefully protected its land against the onslaught of criminal groups and the corrupt, complicit government.
Women of Fire: Rebellion and Hope is a testimony of resistance, a project designed to empower the voices of indigenous women who continue to be part of an ongoing process of restitution. It offers an intimate look into the lives of the women who have struggled to take back the fate of their community and, in doing so, have shaped the recent history of Cherán and all of Mexico.
