À propos de cet audio
“Yinka is a lovable and relatable disaster—which is to say, she isn’t actually a disaster at all...I adore her.”—Emily Henry, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Book Lovers
“Feel good, funny, and clever, it’s got smash-hit written all over it!” –Josie Silver, New York Times bestselling author of One Day in December
Meet Yinka: a thirty-something, Oxford-educated, British Nigerian woman with a well-paid job, good friends, and a mother whose constant refrain is “Yinka, where is your huzband?”
Yinka’s Nigerian aunties frequently pray for her delivery from singledom, her work friends think she’s too traditional (she’s saving herself for marriage!), her girlfriends think she needs to get over her ex already, and the men in her life…well, that’s a whole other story. But Yinka herself has always believed that true love will find her when the time is right.
Still, when her cousin gets engaged, Yinka commences Operation Find-A-Date for Rachel's Wedding. Aided by a spreadsheet and her best friend, Yinka is determined to succeed. Will Yinka find herself a huzband? And what if the thing she really needs to find is herself?
Yinka, Where is Your Huzband? is a fresh, uplifting story of an unconventional heroine who bravely asks the questions we all have about love. Wry, moving, irresistible, this is a love story that makes you smile but also makes you think--and explores what it means to find your way between two cultures, both of which are yours.

For months I stood in the wings, an understudy waiting for my time to shine. I never imagined he would be in the audience that night. Canon Holt. Famous film director. Talented. Fine. Before I could catch my breath, everything changed. I went from backstage Broadway to center stage Hollywood. From being unknown, to my name, Neevah Saint, on everyone's lips when Canon casts me in a star-studded Harlem Renaissance biopic. But stars shine brightest in the dead of night. Forbidden attraction, scandal and circumstances beyond my control jeopardize my dream.

Korede is bitter. How could she not be? Her sister, Ayoola, is many things: the favorite child, the beautiful one, possibly sociopathic. And now Ayoola’s third boyfriend in a row is dead. Korede’s practicality is the sisters’ saving grace. She knows the best solutions for cleaning blood, the trunk of her car is big enough for a body, and she keeps Ayoola from posting pictures of her dinner to Instagram when she should be mourning her “missing” boyfriend. Not that she gets any credit. Korede has long been in love with a kind, handsome doctor at the hospital where she works.

Ce que les critiques en disent
“The novel depicts the challenge of navigating two cultures, both of which Yinka is a part of and apart from. In her commitment to being her whole self and true to her faith and ideals, Yinka writes a prayer for herself, a rallying cry to which we can all shout, 'Amen!'”
—NPR
“Lizzie Damilola Blackburn's debut novel is incredibly relatable for anybody whose family members frequently question their relationship status. In Yinka, Where Is Your Huzband? a thirty-something Nigerian woman attempts to find herself a wedding date and learns some valuable lessons about life and love.”
—Marie Claire
“If…Yinka, Where Is Your Huzband? was to become a TV sitcom, it could run episode after episode, season after season, without losing steam on story material. Cheeky and entertaining, the novel, which spans just six months in the chaotic life of its British-Nigerian protagonist Yinka, packs in a whole lot of cross-cultural drama and social commentary with an easy-going, conversational style. Add romantic and professional mishaps, and complicated relationships among four Black women living in England, two of whom are Yinka’s cousins, and you have the makings of comedic gold.”
—Minneapolis Star-Tribune

superb narration
The storyline was nice, not really new though. I especially enjoyed witnessing Yinka's slow (maybe not so slow) decline to rock bottom. It was hilarious to me, sort of brought to mind the main protagonists story in never have I ever. One new low everytime you think she has hit rock bottom. Behind the laughs though, it was thought provoking and the narrator made me love and care for Yinka.....her vulnerability was palpable. I would 100% listen to anything narrated by Ronke. Even a drug info sheet lol!.

Amazing, amazing, amazing
This book is fantastic, would highly recommend. The narration was so good, it was very emotive - some narration styles are so dry but this one did not disappoint. The writing and narration were both so funny and realistic. I enjoyed feeling like a fly on the wall but at the same time it felt as if Yinka was my friend and filling me in on her life. Ten out ten!!

Infuriating & wholesome
This book got me hooked from the opening scene. The book follows Yinka as she navigates her mother’s strong desire for her to marry -anyone would do given that Yinka is "getting old", she was 30- and Yinka’s own desire to get married. This book is about self love, its knowing that you deserve a good man even when you’re "getting old". It’s also about navigating complex relationships with love. This book captures the essence of how important marriage is in Nigerian culture, but balances it with self love, because -it’s God when not God anyhow-

I loved this book
I could relate to so many of the themes, especially self-love and breaking generational curses. I initially borrowed it from the library but bought it halfway through. Like Yinka’s therapist, my Caribbean background makes a lot of what she goes thru feel familiar. I understood her wanting things that have been ingrained in her while also wanting to just be loved for herself while never truly loving herself. I love her transformation, along with other characters around her. It was like reading a Sophie Kinsella or Marian Keyes but the main character looks and talks like me..their family, their friends think and act like mine. The audiobook just upped the story with real-like sounds like Yinka writing and sending texts. Ronke was an amazing narrator.

Loved the narration
I loved how the book touched on the major issues of self love and colorism in the African community. The culture of "sweeping every under the rug" not addressing issues in Nigerian families for fear of being labeled rude, and the comlicated dynamic of the mother and daughter relationship.

I kinda want to hear how the story goes afterwards...
I identify alot with Yinka... and even partially with her friend and cousins and even sister. I identify with the pressures she experiences especially from extended family...
what an enjoyable read
