#4 - Simon Greatly - How Business & Sport Assist my Role as a Sporting Parent

  • Résumé

  • Simon Gerathy is a successful businessman in the various world of marketing & sports and someone I came to know in my earlier years at Coastal Spirit.

His oldest son Liam was a promising young footballer who made his debut for the national league team Canterbury United Dragons after spending time at one of NZs best footballing institutes, the Ole Academy.

Liam didn’t quite make the transition to a professional athlete and has since turned his passion for football into non-playing roles, namely coaching & analysis with some major clubs in Sydney, Western Sydney Wanderers and Manly United.

For me, opening up conversations with parents such as Simon, who have been right there on the difficult journey of transitioning from talented youngster to experienced pro does not occur enough.

Through taking in the observations of parents, it will only serve to help us become better coaches, administrators, athletes and also parents.

It’s time to treat parents as allies, rather than advisories.
