  • Résumé

  • Welcome to episode no. 24 (September 2024) of Diabetes Care “On Air”—a new and different way to bring the research published in Diabetes Care to life. Join co-hosts Alice Cheng, MD, FRCPC, and Michael Rickels, MD, MS, as they discuss the latest and greatest content in the September 2024 issue of Diabetes Care and beyond. 0:30 Alice and Mike begin by highlighting a special section of the September issue of Diabetes Care: the DCCT/EDIC 40th Anniversary Collection. This collection contains five original articles containing new research from DCCT/EDIC as well as a commentary and review on the history and importance of the DCCT/EDIC. This episode of Diabetes Care “On Air” features several of the researchers who have been involved in DCCT/EDIC as well as some of the individuals living with diabetes who have taken part in the studies. This article collection can be accessed at https://diabetesjournals.org/collection/2296/DCCT-EDIC-40th-Anniversary-Collection. 1:26: Alice kicks off the interviews by bringing on four individuals who she refers to as “very special guests”: Dr. Rose Gubitosi-Klug, Gayle Lorenzi, Pamela Curtin, and Bill King. Dr. Klug is the current chair of the DCCT/EDIC Research Group, and Gayle Lorenzi is the chair of the DCCT/EDIC Coordinators Committee and Community Health Project manager. Pamela Curtin and Bill King, as Alice says, “Represent arguably the most important people for this entire project.” They are individuals with diabetes who have participated in the study and have given their time, bodies, and minds to the pursuit of science and better care. 46:33: Mike talks to some of the authors of the five original articles of the DCCT/EDIC 40th anniversary collection that are featured in September’s issue: Drs. Barbara A. Blodi, Christine P. Limonte, Rodica Pop-Busui, and Naina Sinha Gregory. The articles can be accessed at https://diabetesjournals.org/collection/2296/DCCT-EDIC-40th-Anniversary-Collection. 1:22:03: In the “Diabetes Care Rapid Exchange,” Alice and Mike wrap up the episode by reviewing several interesting articles in the September 2024 issue of Diabetes Care.
