Another FCS team appears to be leaving for the FBS to make the path just a little easier for North Dakota State and South Dakota State, and South Dakota to win national titles. Why is Sacramento State making the move, and why does it appear the Dakotas schools won't do so anytime soon?
Interview 1 - Dick Vermeil
One of seven coaches to lead two different teams to the Super Bowl, Vermeil led the Eagles to the big game in 1980 (a loss to the Raiders), burned out on coaching three years later, came out of a 14-year retirement to take over the St. Louis Rams in 1997 and spearheaded the legendary "Greatest Show on Turf" with third-string Kurt Warner to a title in 1999.
He "retired" shortly after the season, only to be convinced two years later to come back, this time to the Chiefs, led by the same general manager that hired him with the Eagles, Carl Peterson. Vermeil's third Kansas City team went 13-3 but lost in the famous "no punt" playoff game in 2003 to Peyton Manning and the Colts. Vermeil stepped down in 2005 after his 10-6 squad narrowly missed the postseason.
The common thread through all of his coaching stops was turning them into title-contending winners — and tears. Vermeil may be the poster child for grown men crying without shame in public. He did it after games, and he did it when announcing his resignations.
In a timeless 2019 conversation about his prolific career, and, yes, his emotional outbreaks, Vermeil joined Happy Hour's John Gaskins on FOX Sports Radio Sioux Falls (KWSN), co-hosted by Craig Mattick.
Interview 2 - Tim Reck
Sioux Falls Jefferson may be 5-8, but the Cavaliers are back at full strength and hoping for a season-swinging road win at No. 3 Mitchell (9-2) in the Corn Palace tonight.
Reck, a 30-year veteran of prep hoops coaching in the Sioux Falls School District, has been the Cavs head coach since day one in 2021. His fourth team is finally at full strength, ready to take on a Kernel squad that returns most of its lineup from a state championship team last March and just knocked off No. 1, undefeated Lincoln on Friday.
How can the Cavs score a major upset in one of the hallowed hall of high school hoops?
