We then see Maharishi Vashisht insist Bharat take the throne as that was what King Dasharath had last decreed, even if it was due to a promise, it was something that would have to be heard, but Bharat disagreed with that, according to him, the throne belonged to his elder brother Lord Ram, and he decides to go to the forest alongside some of their subjects to convince Lord Ram to come back and take his rightful place as Ayodhya's ruler.
