  • Boxcar English is a convenient, effective, and fun way to learn English. A warm voice with a limited vocabulary range speaks slowly enough for you to understand. The podcast tells stories that are interesting, funny, sometimes beautiful, sometimes strange, and always unpredictable. That way, listeners engage with the meaning, rather than the surface level of the language. The "For beginners" podcast focus on the basic phrases and vocabulary you will need to understand the stories told in the regular Boxcar English podcast. Boxcar English is made for intermediate English speakers, at about a B1-level. Boxcar for Beginners is made for those at about the A1 and A2 levels. The philosophy of the podcast is to provide the good, positive energy needed for learning a new language. Most of our content is free or low cost, and all of it is made by a human. Boxcar English is produced without the use of AI! This is a very different kind of podcast for learning English. That's what makes it so great. It's absolutely authentic and full of phrasings that are actually used. When you hear these phrasings in this understandable way, you will be able to understand them well and incorporate them into your English vocabulary! It's based on the language-learning theory of "Comprehensible and Compelling input," which says that you should listen and read to a lot of materials that are 1) Easy to understand (you know 95% of the vocabulary), and 2) Interesting to listen to. Pretend you're a baby. Listen and listen and listen to English, until you start thinking in English. Boxcar English is designed to be fun, welcoming, & refreshing to different levels of learners.
