  • Cato is a play by Joseph Addison, first acted in 1713, which sensationalizes the last long stretches of Cato the More youthful, a Roman legislator known for his firm resistance to Julius Caesar's oppression. Set during Caesar's considerate conflict, the play depicts Cato as an image of conservative temperance, relentless in his obligation to freedom and his ethical standards. Regardless of individual and political difficulties, Cato stays steadfast, picking self destruction over give up to Caesar's power. Addison's work was exceptionally powerful in the eighteenth hundred years, respected for its subjects of opportunity, honor, and protection from oppression. It resounded with crowds, especially in Britain and the American settlements, where it motivated numerous political pioneers and progressives. Cato stays a famous figure of traditional republicanism.
