Collateral Duty

  • Résumé

  • Collateral Duty is THE podcast where we break down the realities behind the badge, the uniform and the call to serve. This is where raw experience meets real conversation. Whethere it's about leadership, mental health or the unseen weight of it all, we tackle thoughts that don't make it into the reports. Your host, LT, is a 10 year veteran of a local law enforcement agency. She wears many hats, but her heart is in service not only to her community, but her fellow officers and first responder partners. She is a Peer Support specialist, a wellness advocate and knows all too well this field isn't just a career, it's a calling.

This is a space for those who live it, those who support it and those who just want to learn more along the way. Let's lean in, lift each other up along the way and remember... WE NEVER CARRY IT ALONE. Welcome.

  • What The Stigma?
    Feb 25 2025
    Episode 2: What The Stigma?
Stigma—it’s that annoying, outdated, completely unnecessary weight that first responders have been carrying around like an old, busted radio that no one wants to replace. In this episode, we’re calling it out for what it is: a ridiculous roadblock to getting the help we deserve.
We’ll dive into why so many in public safety still feel like they have to “suck it up” instead of speaking up, how that mindset is harming more than helping, and what we can do to change the culture. Expect some raw truth, a few laughs, and maybe even a wake-up call (without the sirens).
It’s time to break the cycle and start normalizing mental health conversations in first responder communities. No more suffering in silence. No more stigma. Just real talk and real resources to back it up:

Cop Line - a 24/7 manned line for first responders and their families
Boulder Crest Foundation - Resources for all first responders and military
VA Leap - Resources for Peer Support
VA First Responder Wellness - Resources specifically for Virginia’s first responders, because local support matters

So grab your coffee, your duty belt (or your couch blanket), and let’s talk about breaking the stigma—because the only thing we should be carrying is each other, not the weight of silent struggles.

In this episode, I am introducing myself, sharing a little about my career, and explaining why I thought talking into a microphone was a good idea. From my journey in public safety to the reason I'm diving into this podcast, we're covering it all - plus a few random thoughts along the way. So, grab a coffee (or somthing stronger, I don't judge) settle in, and let's get this thing started!
