In this spring episode, climate-aware therapist, Merritt Juliano, engages in a deep conversation with Michelle Shofet and Larissa Belcic, cofounders of Nocturnal Medicine, a nonprofit design studio using old and new traditions to heal our connection with nature and encourage spiritual healing. Informed by their formal training as landscape architects, their design practice is dedicated to building cultural resources for transformative change in an era of unprecedented environmental crisis.
Their work has been celebrated in The New York Times & Bloomberg’s CityLab as bringing a cutting-edge, soul-centered approach to addressing climate crisis and its psycho-emotional impacts. They have designed & produced immersive social experiences across diverse platforms, including in nightlife (Nowadays NYC), academic spaces (MIT, Harvard, Yale), & community centers.
Both Belcic & Shofet lecture on sustainability, design, & ecological consciousness at RISD & The New School, respectively, & have presented their work at a range of institutions including The New Museum, the international Earth Day Live Conference, & universities across the country. They are current members of NEW INC’s Creative Science track.
