  • Aschwin de Wolf & Andy McKenzie - Fixation vs. Vitrification
    Nov 15 2025

There has long been debate in the cryonics community on whether the best procedure for preserving patients is to use chemicals to fixate the brain or to perfuse cryoprotectants and use cryogenic temperatures to vitrify the body (as Alcor, Tomorrow Bio, and Cryonics Institute do).

We brought together two of the best researchers in the field to help us understand each procedure including what we care about preserving in the brain, the strengths and weakness of each approach, whether one approach favors biological reanimation vs. brain emulation, and more.
