  • David Crockett (1786-1836) was an American frontiersman, soldier, politician, and folk hero. He is best known for his role in the Texas Revolution and his death at the Battle of the Alamo.Crockett was born in Tennessee and grew up on the frontier. He was a skilled hunter and woodsman, and he quickly became known for his bravery and his ability to survive in the wilderness.In 1813, Crockett joined the Tennessee militia and fought in the Creek War. He served with distinction and was promoted to colonel.After the war, Crockett entered politics. He was elected to the Tennessee state legislature in 1821 and to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1827.In Congress, Crockett was a vocal critic of President Andrew Jackson's Indian removal policy. He also supported the rights of settlers on the frontier.In 1835, Crockett joined a group of volunteers who traveled to Texas to fight for independence from Mexico. He arrived at the Alamo in San Antonio in February 1836.On March 6, 1836, the Mexican army attacked the Alamo. Crockett and the other defenders fought bravely, but they were eventually overwhelmed and killed.Crockett's death at the Alamo made him a national hero. He is remembered for his bravery, his independence, and his commitment to the ideals of liberty and justice.David Crockett's life and times were a reflection of the American frontier. He was a self-made man who rose from humble beginnings to achieve national fame. He was a true American hero who fought for what he believed in.
