Dr. Tyler Standifird on Ground Reaction Forces, Clubhead Speed and Power

  • Résumé

  • Dr. Tyler Standifird is a Professor of Biomechanics in the Exercise Science Department at Utah Valley University (UVU). One of the most informed minds in the field of Biomechanics, Ground Reaction Forces and Speed, Dr. Standifird focusses on force and motion capture data of various sports including weightlifting, running and golf. His lab research has resulted in many years of golf data pertaining to force plate metrics and Trackman ball-flight data for swing velocity improvements.

Tyler joins #OntheMark to share some of his research and findings to help you understand how velocity and speed are generated, and how you can improve your clubhead speed and power. Topics of discussion include:

    • His partnership with Superspeed and anecdotes from Padraig Harrington on how to create "Dynamic Motion" and clubhead speed.
    • An in-depth explanation of Ground Reaction Forces (GRF) and how they can be exploited for extra power - Mass Shifts, Pressure Shifts, and the Timing and Amount of these events.
    • Grip Pressure and its influence on the Kinetic Chain, Hand-speed, Centripetal Acceleration and Clubhead Speed.
    • Nutrition both on-course and off for enhanced performance, and
    • The new Superspeed App, how it works and what features and Speed Protocols it offers.
