This is the EduResearching Podcast, hosted on behalf of the Bristol Network of the Chartered College of Teaching, by Dr Steve Murray (@EduResearching on X) at Orchard School Bristol.
This episode features special guest Matt Pinkett, who has been teaching English for over a decade. As well as this, he has written two best-selling books on adolescent masculinity (‘Boys Don’t Try?’ and ‘Boys Do Cry’) and spends lots of his time talking to students, staff and parents about topics ranging from boys’ mental health to misogyny to combatting sexual harassment. In his free time he likes to beat his daughter at monopoly.
In this talk, Matt examines the problem of toxic masculinity in schools and provides advice to teachers as to how they can combat misogyny and sexual harassment in schools.
