  • Welcome to The Follow Up! In this show, the hosts Josh and Kel will talk about sequels and remakes of films and how they expand upon or alter the world of the film's predecessor. Should sequels be able to stand on their own? Should remakes follow the original's plot precisely or make alterations to form different narratives? Both of these questions, and more, will be discussed in this show. The first episode is about 1986's "Aliens" which is the follow up to the 1979 film "Alien." In this episode, Josh and Kel will talk about the genre shift that this film takes the franchise down as well as the changes in themes, combat, and progression in story line that this sequel begins. James Cameron's sci-fi dystopian action films are considered a hallmark of his early career. With this film being an addition to a pre-existing property, his direction and writing proved critical in the production getting made as well as creating a lasting impression that helped to spawn two additional sequels.
