Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.
Many of us are familiar with this passage in scripture. We understand this idea “to be of service to others and treat them better than ourselves” - but when it’s the person who forgets to take out the garbage, who didn’t fill up the car, who forgot to schedule the kids’ doctor appointment - we don’t always feel like being of service. We want to be frustrated, grouchy, and maybe even a little resentful. But Paul makes it clear in Philippians that we are to treat others better than ourselves - and that includes our spouse. This honest, hilarious, and convicting episode reminds each of us that the person we should be out-serving is our spouse - and Dr. Gary and Barbie, as always, have some practical and insightful ways to do that.
