Episode 2 - Better the Devils you know

  • Résumé

  • Last week we met Jamie who spoke about Hereford FC.
They played Radcliffe FC away from home and we'll start this weeks episode with a quick match report.

Next up we have Tony who is a lifelong Man Utd fan.

    Brief Man Utd fact file:

    • Manchester United, one of the most iconic football clubs in the world, was founded in 1878 as Newton Heath LYR Football Club by the Carriage and Wagon department of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway depot at Newton Heath.
    • In 1902, facing financial difficulties, the club was rebranded as Manchester United under new ownership. They adopted their now-famous red and white colors and began their rise in English football.
    • The club’s first major success came in 1908 when they won their first league title, followed by their first FA Cup victory in 1909.
    • However, United's golden age truly began in the mid-20th century under the legendary manager Sir Matt Busby. In the 1950s, the “Busby Babes,” a team of youthful talents, captured hearts with their attacking style. Tragedy struck in 1958 with the Munich air disaster, which claimed the lives of eight players and left the club in mourning.
    • Remarkably, Busby rebuilt the team, and a decade later, Manchester United became the first English club to win the European Cup in 1968.
    • The club entered a challenging period in the 1970s but resurged under Sir Alex Ferguson, who was appointed in 1986. Ferguson’s reign marked an era of dominance, highlighted by 13 Premier League titles, five FA Cups, and two UEFA Champions League titles. The treble-winning season of 1998-99 remains a pinnacle in football history.
    • Since Ferguson’s retirement in 2013, Manchester United has faced a transitional period, but the club remains a global powerhouse
