    In this episode, Debbie speaks with Jacqueline Janssen, who is an author, a mental health advocate, a former NAMI director, and her family has been affected by mental illness. Jacqueline has been doing phenomenal things to advocate for families and has organized a task force in her county to discuss the support they need and what they think the treatment staff needs to learn to help parents and families support their loved one with mental illness. Jacqueline Janssen is an advocate for families affected by mental illness. As a Director on the Local National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Board and Commissioner on the County Mental Health Board, she is one of the creators of the County Family Partnership Policy. Her goal is the creation and implementation of training that includes treatment, clinicians, peers, and families because evidence shows that when families are involved in recovery, outcomes are better for all. Jacqueline is also an activist for women's rights. As a nonprofit executive recruiter she and her team placed women in leadership positions. She was a Nominated Changemaker for the White House's United State of Women. Jacqueline is a graduate of U.C. Berkeley and a member of the International Association of Feminist Economics (IAFFE).   • Using music to heal-interview with Recovery Unplugged clinical director

    In this episode, Debbie speaks with Kerrie Laughlin, the Clinical Director of a Washington DC area substance abuse treatment facility that helps patients overcome drug and alcohol abuse through a program that incorporates a music-based treatment model of behavioral rehab about the following: substance abuse and mental health, what parents can expect when their child goes into a drug/alcohol treatment facility, different types of treatment available, Recovery Unplugged and their music based behavioral rehab, how parents can support their child who has substance abuse/addiction/mental health challenges, support vs enabling, and warning signs of drug use. Kerrie Laughlin is the Clinical Director at Recovery Unplugged NOVA location in Annandale Virginia. Kerrie brings nearly 20 years of experience in providing mental health and substance use treatment services to a wide range of diagnoses and age groups in clinical, residential, school, and community settings. She obtained a B.A. from Mary Baldwin College in 2005 with majors in both Psychology and Religious Studies as well as a minor in Asian Studies. Kerrie completed an M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in 2014 at South University. Kerrie is a Licensed Professional Counselor, a Licensed Substance Abuse Treatment Provider, and a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor Supervisor in the State of Virginia. She has specialized training in EMDR, DBT, CBT, MET, ABFT, and Play Therapy. Kerrie uses strength-based, individualized, and client-centered approaches to providing trauma-informed care. Kerrie has extensive experience in working with individuals, groups, and families. She has a passionate interest in cultural inclusivity and has been endorsed as a trainer for CBMCS and OWL. Outside of the clinical space, Kerrie enjoys modular building with Lego, off-roading in her Jeep, travel, and outdoor cooking. Kerrie identifies her core values as ethics and inclusivity. These values serve as the thread throughout the fabric of her clinical presence. Kerrie is motivated for human services by watching the spark of awareness arise in clients and supervisees.
