Using Reddit to promote your podcast.   Resources: Above the Board with Josh and Phil Above the Board - Plunder: A Pirates Life Downforce Clank Catan Azul Plunder Pandemic Podcast Man   Connect with Phil: Twitter YouTube   Connecting with the host: Charlie Latham on LinkedIn   Quotables 3:23 - “It seems like friends don’t want to listen to a podcast, when I’ve done short film stuff everyone’s like oh what did you make, this is cool, but when you’re like hey I have a podcast they’re like oh don’t ask me to listen please.” 6:14 - “Editing a podcast is a lot more work than I expected it’s weird because once you start listening to it all of a sudden all of your breaths and um’s are really loud to you in a way that they weren’t before so you’re like I want to take those out and clean out the sound of the podcast, and I feel like it takes me 5 minutes for every minute of podcast I release on average which kind of surprised me.” 10:14 - “I’m a huge board game nerd, in the last five to ten years we’ve hit this golden age of boardgames thanks to Kickstarter because before board games were really cardboard heavy so they had really high production cost compared to other media just to put it out there on top of design and testing and stuff that goes into making it and so board game publishers were a little bit more risk averse before Kickstarter because if you have to print a minimum of 3000 copies of a game you hope to have at least 3000 people who want it especially since 20 years ago the internet wasn’t as big of a deal it was harder to find a audience too, but thanks to Kickstarter people can if they want that type of game order first so it’s really easy to hit that 3000 item minimum order when you get 3000 people ahead of time like that sounds perfect and so the last 5 or 10 years board games have taken off so anyone listening who hasn’t played a board game recently and just thinks I’m talking about Monopoly or Risk or something, look into board games again they’re super fun.” 19:26 - “If you want to grow you gotta do the social media stuff because most of our growth has come from that, the episode I was talking about Hero Quest where we had a lot of random listeners it’s because I went to the Hero Quest Reddit and was like hey here’s us playing the game, so when you’re ready to grow that’s kind of the next move.”
