  • #219 Darlene Steele - Owner/Operator Yoga Instructor @ Yoga Bloom Studio
    Jun 4 2024

    Send us a Text Message.

Darlene first stepped on a yoga mat in 2012, and it was love at first twist. At the time, she was looking for something to help her find some inner calm, and she left feeling so peaceful she couldn’t wait to go back for more. As she continued to attend different yoga classes, she began to notice so many major changes in her overall physical, spiritual and mental well-being. Just learning how slowing down the breath and taking easy inhales & exhales could be so powerful, was amazing to her.
She was constantly telling everyone she met about all the fantastic benefits of yoga, so she figured it was time she took it to another level. She decided to delve into it deeper by signing up with the amazing Bobby Bessey and Meaghan Burridge, to complete her 200 hour Hatha Yoga Teacher Training-NL in December, 2018.
She did some substitute teaching, and then in 2019 she completed her Restorative Yoga Teacher Training with Andrea Peloso. From there she completely emptied out her basement to have a small home based studio. This opportunity allowed her to learn and grow in her teaching, and she knew this was what she wanted to do. But then when Covid hit, things changed and she had to switch her teaching to online Zoom. She says those Zoom classes were so important to all of those practicing together in such uncertain times, but she really missed the energy in the room with people around.
When the opportunity came up to open her own yoga studio in St. John's, she was so excited to have a space where all people could come to practice this gift of yoga.
To quote Darlene "I feel blessed to have this opportunity to teach, and I am so thankful for all my yogis and for the many wonderful teachers that have guided me over the years. Namaste."

  • #216 Allan and Kevin Keats - Legendary NL prospectors
    May 14 2024

    Send us a Text Message.

Kevin Keats is part of a long line of prospectors in his family, one that stretches all the way back to his great-great-grandfather, and now includes his own sons.
In 1969, Noranda Explorations opened an office in Gander. Mr. Keats and his son Allan thought the company might be interested in the lost silver mine.
In 2007 Ted and Allan Keats for the Keats-Stares prospecting family received the Bill Dennis Award for a Canadian discovery or prospecting success:
The four generations of this Newfoundland family have all been involved in prospecting. Ted, the father, was involved in the discovery of the Point Leamington, Burnt Pond and Tally Pond zones. Sons Al, Calvin, Fred, and Suley followed in their father’s footsteps. Al worked with his father on the Point Leamington and Tally Pond discoveries and also discovered Duck Pond and Winter Hill. Calvin has worked all over the world, discovering South Golden Promise and numerous uranium showings in Labrador. Fred discovered a 36-ounce/ton VG boulder on the Appleton Linear for Noranda (now optioned to Paragon). Suley discovered the Beaver Brook deposit with Calvin and has been looking for uranium in Labrador. The following generations – grandsons and great grandsons – are all actively involved in prospecting.

To quote Peter Dimmell "I say prospectors have an advantage over geologists because they don't know scientifically what to look for. They look in all the wrong places and find all the right stuff. They just go out, and see something different, and bang on it, smack it with a hammer. That's how these guys worked.
"It's a sixth sense. You go in the woods, and all the rocks look the same. But for some reason one looks different to these guys. And they break it."

In this episode you will first see an interview Gerry did with Allan Keats at Central Minex 2023 and immediately following that you will see an interview Gale Force Wins did with Allan and his son Kevin at Central Minex 2024.
