  • GND#27 From Dropout to Founder & CEO Sean Alexander
    Feb 12 2025

Sean Alexander is a former Canadian Oil-Patcher turned CEO at Kailani Outdoors. His path to get there was unconventional to say the least. In this episode we tip our toes briefly into Sean's up-bringing, which includes him being forced to live on is own at the age of 16, and having already switched schools 14 times by grade eight. Eventually he would drop out of high school to go make a life for himself.

Sean later found himself working in Corporate Calgary downtown peddling various Oil and Gas services products. He was doing well, and he enjoyed it. But he was always searching for something new, given his uprbringing this kind of makes a lot of sense to always be looking for something. Sean was, as per usual, side hustling some Paddle Boards which were kind of blowing up everwhere frankly. He speaks of his life working on the side out of his garage selling his own paddle boards from China, and going to his day job every morning. Once he got good at the importing/exporting game, he later got his on eye coolers. This is where it truly begins. He became a travelling cooler salesman, but not just any cooler! Everyone knows about the Yeti, well he found this bad boy and tested it himself in his garage, his lab if you will, and discovered this thing was pretty darn comparable, if not the same. But cheaper! BOOM, the hook. $$$
He speaks of immediate sales and not being able to keep up, once he branded his newly formed company, Kailani Outdoors, which in Hawaiin means "Sea, Sky or Heavenly Sea". Once he knew had something and started to blow up, he eventually would find himself raising more capital and even landing a stint on Dragon's Den, we discuss his time on the show.

In this episode we also inevitably get into Politics and the Donald Trump tariffs situation in Canada. How Canada desperately needs an election. Mark Carney being the Trudeau clone. The Freedom Convoy. Trumps inauguration. And so much more. Sean's story is truly one of Triumph and Determination. As his story unfolds in front of our eyes, I would hope to see more great things from this young man and suspect we might even see his story told in books perhaps!

  • GND#25 with Caylan Ford-Former UCP Star Candidate & Founder Alberta Classical Academy
    Dec 3 2024

Caylan Ford was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta and is the current Founder and owner/operator at her recently expanded Alberta Classical Academy. They're up to 3 locations already in Alberta in a very short amount of time. But how she got here is a story still unfolding. Caylan was one of the brightest up-and-coming star political candidates for the UCP, running for a spot in her riding of Calgary-Mountain View. But a charismatic, and rather dark character would soon emerge to completely ruin her life through a series of bold moves and ridiculous accusations. Karim Jivraj and Caylan struck up a working relationship while both considering their next moves in the political space. They ultimately both decided to relocate from Ontario to Alberta. Caylan got the nod to represent the UCP to run for her riding of Mountain View. But 29 days before the writ drop to announce the election, she received an ominous email from Press Progress saying they had information to suggest she was a racist whom supported "white supremacy" and "echoed white nationalist sentiments" and asked if she cared to comment, within 3 hours. It all arose from lengthy online conversations she'd had over Facebook Messenger some years prior with Karim. We dive into almost every greasy detail and dirty move that not only Karim pulled on Caylan's potential career, but once leaked to the press, CBC, Toronto Star and others simply ran with the story. In 2020 she filed a 7.65 Million defamation claim against the defendants including: CBC, NDP, Toronto Star, Press Progress and a slew of other individuals who did not take the time to check the source for verification. In short, the conversation was taken completely out of context. Calyan found herself unemployable and isolated and lost almost all of her so called "friends" In this episode we also share a clip from her documentary "When the Mob Came".

DO NOT MISS THIS EPISODE-IT WILL SIMPLY BLOW YOUR MIND ON THE AWFUL OUTCOMES OF CANCEL CULTURE.

  • GND#24 with Brittany, Conservative Social Media Darling
    Nov 18 2024

Meet Brittany. She is outstanding Social Media content creator, turned political promoter for all things Conservatism. Based on her core values she decided to dive deeper into having more of a voice for the conservative movement in Canada. She found herself pumping messaging for @canadaproud7022 while garnering hundreds of thousands of views. While most of the responses were positive, with the good always comes the bad of course. She then wedged herself into the BC Elections assisting in door-knocking with her Conservative candidate for the October 19, 2024 vote. She documented much of this and tells me about her experience there. Immediately after this she headed off to the UCP AGM in Red Deer, AB. Again she worked her magic in getting the behind the scenes messaging out and got to meet some of her favorite Politicians such as @ABDanielleSmith and @PierrePoilievre In this episode we engage in some great banter on the Donald Trump election win, Kamala Harris loss and their social media games. Our thoughts on Justin Trudeau and his obvious hatred towards the west, via their attack on the Energy sector disguised as climate initiatives. What some of her potential next moves might be in regards to her social platforms. What it takes to make great posts that drive engagement or invoke feelings. And our desire as citizens to see more politicians on podcasts thanks to the Joe Rogan special involving Donald Trump, Elon Musk and JD Vance. AND so much more, cso ome along for another great northern discussion! • GND#23 with Sonya Sharp Ward 1 Councillor City of Calgary
    Nov 6 2024

Sonya Sharp is a Ward 1 born and raised City of Calgary Councillor. She is a rare-breed indeed for two reasons, the first being a City Councillor whom was born and raised in her own Ward, although it does happen from time to time. The second being that, not only does she represent where she has spent her entire life, but she also worked for the City of Calgary for 20 years before deciding to enter into municipal politics. Sonya is a breath of fresh air whom seemingly ALWAYS votes on Notice of Motions downtown Calgary with her constituents in mind. This does not always happen. In this episode we get into the divide at City Hall, and the repetitive nature of almost of ALL of the NOM's brought forward ending in a final vote of 8-6. Some of the local newspapers have dubbed the larger majority voting block "The Hateful Eight". We get into the Green Line Debacle, the Climate Emergency declaration on Day 1 by Mayor Gondek, and what the hell does this even mean. We get into the current Tabled Budget, and of course the famous Water Main Break that occurred in Bowness. Grab the popcorn folks. Sonya has no problems calling things like she see's them and calling people out. It's a fantastic discussion. Could she be Calgary's next Mayor????

  • GND#21 with Heidi McKillop President & CEO ASN Productions Ltd.
    Jun 18 2024

Generation Green is the latest documentary from Heidi McKillop and ASN Productions. She is a proud transplanted Albertan from the maritimes, with a true passion for the west and western interests.

In this episode we trace Heidi's unorthodox journey into filmmaking, and then get right down to brass tax. We dissect Generation Green, which is available on youtube now. It begins with a focus on the big green push to a renewable future, but at what cost? It's a fantastic and well-balanced documentary, that ultimately becomes a film about citizens and how industrial projects can infringe on our everyday lives. As she goes on her investigative journey it takes her to Waterton National Park, where a massive wind turbine project, the Riplinger Wind Project from Trans Alta was proposing to build 37 wind turbines. This did not make the locals happy in the slightest, and as a journalist she ends up getting to know the determined folk of the areas that could end up affected .

She dives even further into the renewable rabbit hole as she speaks with the Executive Chairman of the African Energy Chamber, NJ Ayuk, on the poor working conditions in the Cobalt mining industry, a necessary ingredient for lithium ion batteries for EV's. Slave labour and corruption are rampant there, not to mention the mining industry in the Congo is primarily China-owned.

Some questions for us all-Are solar panels the answer, and are wind turbines the answer to climate change? Is climate change real? We dive deep into this conversation. What she ultimately discovers during her research for the film is that any new alternative energy source has only been augmented by fossil fuels, but it's a step. Is it necessary? Maybe. Should we always aim to be better in our treatment of the planet? 100% yes. Should the renewable sector be scrutinized to the same due diligence needed during the approval process that already applies to the energy sector? Also 100% yes. And what happens at the end of life for solar panels and wind turbines? Are they recyclable? Sounds like a future problem that needs to be handled now. This is something Alberta Premier Danielle Smith has been an advocate for, and we speak of that in here as well.

Please join me in this fantastic conversation primarily about Generation Green, and if you're a fan of documentaries, you definitely need to put this on your lists of must-watch!

  • GND#20 with Claire Masikewich Director of Marketing & Childhood Cancer Advocate
    May 14 2024

Claire Masikewich had the seemingly normal storybook tale of a healthy young family of four. Until the fateful day of May 26, 2023.

Sloane Masikewich, 5 and half years old and the youngest sibling to sister Indy, wasn't feeling very well one may long weekend. Her signs and symptoms didn't seem too serious for anybody to fuss about, but she kept on getting worse including fever, body aches and pains. No big deal right?

What started as a routine 811 call to Alberta Health Link, then a visit to Alberta Children's Hospital, it soon became apparent there was much more going on inside of little Sloane's body than met the eye.

She was devastatingly diagnosed with Stage 4 Neuroblastoma the next day, a rare and high risk form of cancer among children. There are only 1500 cases annually in Canada, or up to 237 in Alberta alone. She has had a long road of surgeries, chemo, radiation, stem cell transplants and immunotherapy since this time.

The question coming to mind now for the family is, why does there seem to be a lack of funding directly forwarded to pediatrics for research into childhood cancer, and to what risk are we leaving our children given these extreme doses to beat these diseases. Though Sloane is in remission a year later almost to the day, she is not out of the woods yet.

Claire has become an extremely vocal voice in the childhood advocacy space starting up campaigns such as "Strong Like Sloane", and "Heartbeats for Hope"

In this episode we tackle the entire journey for the Masikewich family.
