  • Shane Hanson- Freedom youth Foundation
    Nov 20 2024

Freedom Youth Foundation (FYF), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, is deeply committed to transforming the lives of children in foster care, who need our support the most. Our mission is comprehensive: we offer sports clinics, provide financial literacy education, facilitate mentorship, and conduct employment training, all designed to empower these youth to build successful futures.

A unique aspect of our programming is Parker’s Closet, which provides essential clothing and personal items to foster children, enhancing their confidence and sense of well-being. Additionally, we craft unique experiences that go beyond everyday activities, creating memorable moments that foster growth and connection.

We harness the universal appeal of sports to teach critical life skills such as accountability, leadership, and teamwork. Sports serve as a powerful, cost-effective tool for development, capable of engaging and inspiring individuals across diverse backgrounds.

As these young individuals near the critical transition out of foster care, our financial literacy and employment training programs equip them with essential knowledge and skills. We cover crucial topics such as budgeting, banking, and understanding debt, alongside providing practical support through resume writing and mock interviews to enhance their employability.

At FYF, our goal is to do more than prepare these youth; we strive to see them thrive. We are dedicated to providing hope and opportunities through our impactful programs, ensuring each child receives the support they need to succeed.

  • Tom Luna- Deep Dive on Prop 1
    Oct 30 2024

Tom Luna is the former Idaho Superintendent of Public Instruction. He served in this postion from 2011 to 2015. He was elected to his first term as superintendent on November 7, 2006, and was sworn in the follwing January.[1] Luna ran successfully for re-election in 2010.

Luna was targeted by recall efforts in 2011 and 2012, neither of which made it to the ballot.

After giving sincere consideration to running for re-election again in 2014, Luna ultimately decided not to pursue a third term as superintendent. He announced his retirement on January 27, 2014, and left office upon the expiration of his second term on January 5, 2015.[2][3] He was succeeded by fellow Republican Sherri Ybarra, who won the open seat in the 2014 general election.[4]

  • Sheriff Matt Clifford
    Oct 23 2024

Matt Clifford, who has been with the Ada County Sheriff’s Office since 2000, is now Ada County’s 39th sheriff.

Clifford was appointed by the Ada County Board of Commissioners about a month after the former sheriff retired suddenly on May 31, 2021.

The Ada County Sheriff is responsible for the largest law enforcement agency in the State of Idaho with over 800 employees and an over $100 million budget.

The sheriff’s duties include policing unincorporated Ada County and the cities of Eagle, Kuna and Star.

The sheriff is also responsible for managing the 1,116-bed Ada County Jail — and community supervision of about 2,000 offenders.

The sheriff is also responsible for Ada County Misdemeanor Probation, runs the county-wide 911 Emergency Dispatch Center and fulfills a variety of other statutory and cooperative duties.

Sheriff Clifford has worked as detention and patrol deputy, K9 handler, patrol sergeant, transports sergeant, and as a lieutenant who served as Chief of Eagle Police during his tenure with the ACSO before he assumed the role of sheriff.

Matt is humbled by the outpouring of support from family, friends, employees of the ACSO, and community members who supported his bid to be sheriff.

“I work every day to make Ada County a safer place to live, work, and play —and the support from the community is what makes it possible for the ACSO to overcome challenges and provide the best service to our citizens.

I am proud to be your sheriff.”
