Learn more about Eric Murrell: With two decades of experience in strategy, branding, and digital products, I know what it takes to get things done. I'm a relentlessly curious problem solver who's at his best beside a whiteboard, with a unique knack for bringing order from chaos.

I've worn a lot of hats throughout my journey: leading strategy for a large non-profit, coordinating complex building projects, and developing digital tools with millions of users. I've found that no one discipline exists in a vacuum, and the best solutions often come from thinking outside the box (and sometimes even outside the norm). Those are the projects that excite me.

As a lifelong native of the Nashville area, the one thing I've failed at is learning guitar (though I'm still trying). Otherwise, I'm a big nerd who loves Nintendo, novels, and sci-fi movies. My wife (Lauren) is an incredible graphic designer, and our kids are creative forces of their own. On the weekends, you can find us active in our church, discovering new adventures, and probably trying to get our cat out of a tree.

  • Made to Tremble and the Battle with Crippling Anxiety with Blair Linne
    Mar 5 2026

    Send a text

Ministry doesn’t make us immune to struggle or weakness. In this episode, we talk honestly about what it feels like to lead, teach, and disciple others while still wrestling with anxiety ourselves. When the world treats weakness like failure, it’s easy for ministry leaders to feel hypocritical, exposed, or alone. But Scripture reminds us that God does not abandon us in our weakness—He meets us there.

Together we talk about where leaders can find help for themselves, how churches can walk faithfully with those struggling with anxiety, and practical ways to care for someone else in the battle against anxiety.

  • Regulating Your Own Emotions with Aunt P
    Feb 25 2026

    Send a text

Aunt P joins us today to talk about self-emotional regulation. You know those weird moments in a meeting with your boss or a tense conversation with a parent and you can tell something’s off inside you but aren't sure what do with it? How do you recognize the signs that you’re not okay before you melt down or blow up? What does it actually look like to step away from a situation with maturity, clarity, and self-control instead of regret?

    Together, we unpack:

    • How to spot emotional overload in real time
    • Why tense and awkward moments hit us so hard
    • Practical ways to exit a conversation or situation without escalating it
    • What self-regulation looks like when your emotions feel louder than your logic

  • Loving & Shepherding Apathetic Volunteers
    Feb 10 2026

    Send a text

Volunteer apathy can be discouraging—especially when you care deeply about your people and the mission. In this episode, we talk honestly about how to discern what’s really going on when volunteers seem disengaged. Is it a vision issue, a leadership gap, or simply a role that isn’t the right fit? We explore the importance of knowing your why, communicating it clearly, and creating volunteer roles that invite ownership without placing unrealistic expectations on people.

We also discuss what it looks like to become leaders volunteers feel safe and excited to follow, and how to lovingly navigate difficult conversations when a volunteer relationship needs to change. With grace, clarity, and reflection from our own early ministry experiences, this conversation is meant to encourage pastors and ministry leaders to lead volunteers with wisdom, humility, and care.

Want to invest in your volunteers? Bring them to one of our free Essentials conferences or meet us at Youth Pastor Summit this Spring! A cheap and easy way to pour into your ministry leaders, while also filling your own minister cup.

We can't believe this is the final podcast for This is Friendship. If you've listened to all four episodes, we are so thankful you went on this journey with us.

In Session Four, we will discuss walking hand in hand with joy and grief in our friendships. Learning to let our friends share in the highs and lows takes practice and a willingness to be vulnerable, but the reward of sharing with our friends the honor of sitting with us through our joy and tears is God’s very good gift of community.
