It can be so jarring to be hurt or tricked by someone you love—someone you once trusted. And it can cause your trust in people to be deeply shaken.

But there’s someone who will never lie to you, never betray you, never let you down.

And it’s God.

God’s ancient book of wisdom says this:

God is not a man, so he does not lie. He is not human, so he does not change his mind. Has he ever spoken and then failed to act? Has he ever promised and not carried it through?

No human could ever make those claims. But God, all-powerful and unchanging, is able to commit fully. And, you may not know it, but He is fully committed to you!

He loves you already, and He knows you since the world began. His arms are open, ready and waiting for you to come to know Him.

There are so many things happening around the world that are so troubling. War, suffering, division, environmental disasters that are beyond our control.

The other day, when we were in Albania, the earth shook under us as we experienced an earthquake. We were all fine; there was no damage.

But it reminded me of the verse in Psalm 46. “God is our refuge and strength. An ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea.”

You can have this in your relationship with God. The end of this beautiful psalm says: “Be still, know that I am God.”

Maybe you feel like you’re in a rut, unable to move forward. Well, God is offering you a way forward — through a relationship with Him.

Long ago, a follower of Jesus named Paul wrote this in a letter to the people of Corinth:

…anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!

You can be made new today! If you confess your sins and wrongdoings to God and ask Him to make you new, you can have friendship with Him starting now. Not only that, but you can live forever with Him in Heaven.

God, I need your help to get unstuck. Please forgive me for all the wrongs of my past. I don’t want to live that way anymore. I’m putting my life in Your hands.

Do you want to know God? What God is like? Look at Jesus.

In the four gospels in the New Testament, we can read the story of Jesus’ life. As Jesus walks through the world and interacts with people, we get a picture of what God is like.

In Matthew 3, John the Baptist tells us that Jesus is the One who will baptize with the Holy Spirit and with fire. Fire represents refinement; burning away what is useless or impure. Jesus came to do this in the world and in us.

And the first step in this refinement is submission. Just say: God, have your way in my life.

Allow God to burn away what shouldn’t be there.

How do you celebrate? Is it with singing and dancing, and joy, as people come together to celebrate a person or a whole group of people? It can be so much fun to celebrate others, and to do so alongside a group of friends or family. That’s what life’s all about.

But a celebration on Earth is only just a glimpse of what Heaven will look like one day. Imagine! And God has made a way for us to celebrate eternally in Heaven—with Him! And you’re invited!

Doesn’t that sound amazing? God made a way for you to be with Him forever when He sent His Son, Jesus, as a sacrifice for the sins of all humanity. Will you invite Him in—to come into your heart, to be Lord of your life, to forgive you from all of your wrongs, and to give you a new life?

Come near to God, and He will welcome you with open arms.

This type of tree can remain tall and green, and healthy all year long. The leaves never fall off.

Psalm 1 says this about people who focus on God’s ways:

They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves will never wither, and they prosper in all they do. ** I want that! Don’t you?

His help is more powerful than anything that this world offers, and you can find it by consistently walking in a relationship with Him.

You can start that relationship today. Pray this simple prayer,

God, I want to be like an evergreen tree, enduring every season with Your help and with Your power. Come into my life today and take over. In Jesus name, amen.

All over the world, there is war, there’s conflict. In our homes, we face conflict and pain. In our very souls, we’re full of anxiety and fear.

And we long for peace. True peace is wholeness, when things are as they should be. The Bible tells us that we will only have true peace when we enter into a relationship with the Living God.

Ephesians 2 tells us that Jesus, God’s Son, came to preach peace to those who are far away and peace to those who are near.

That means all people, and that means you. Have you experienced this true peace? True wholeness in a relationship with God?

Especially when someone hurts you deeply and doesn’t even apologize. Maybe you feel they don’t deserve to be forgiven. And maybe you’re right!

But think about this: Would you die for that person? Probably not. Would you die to take the punishment for their wrongs? Even more–NO! This is what Jesus did for you and for me!

This way of love it’s so different. He voluntarily gave His life as an offering for our wrongs, yours and mine—the ultimate act of selflessness.

Are you ready to start a relationship with the Living God? Are you ready to begin a journey to a new way of life? Pray with me now.

God, thank You for becoming the sacrifice for my sins. I am sorry for the many wrongs I have done. Please forgive me. I want to know You and follow Your ways. Amen.
