  • Domestic Abuse and Mental Health #16Days (SafeLives)
    Dec 7 2021

*This episode speaks about topics that some people may find triggering.

In this special episode for #16Days of activism, Yasmin Blackwood, founder of I Am My Sister CIC, was joined by 3 phenomenal women - Abi (Visiting lecturer and PhD candidate), Bianca (Biancaido) and Naomi Donald (PODS CIC) to discuss the relationship between mental health and domestic abuse with a focus on black (and mixed) women and girls experiences.

As shown by statistics those who experience problems/issues with their mental health as a child/teenager are more vulnerable to becoming victims of domestic abuse. It also shows that those with mental health issues are more likely to have experience all types of abuse, particularly sexual abuse.

We take you through the journey from childhood to womanhood exploring the impact, the barriers and the reality for many women and girls that remain invisible to wider society.
