  • Résumé

  • The Power of Pause: Returning Stronger from Racial Trauma and Burnout By: Kearie Daniel Four years ago, the landscape of our lives as Black mothers dramatically shifted in the wake of George Floyd's death and the challenges brought on by COVID. For me as the creator and host of Woke Mommy Chatter, it was a period marked by severe burnout and exhaustion. In coping with the overwhelming racial trauma and societal upheavals, the podcast had to be placed on hold. This hiatus was a journey of self-preservation, a time for healing and gathering strength amidst the turmoil. Now, as Woke Mommy Chatter returns, it brings a renewed spirit, reflective of the transformative hiatus. The re-launch kicks off with a profound episode featuring Dr. Christiana Awosan, an expert in racial trauma and relational therapy. Her insights delve into the deep-seated effects of racial trauma on our lives and relationships, highlighting the generational trauma many of us carry, often unknowingly. This episode is more than a conversation; it's a testament to our collective experience. Dr. Awosan emphasizes the importance of stepping away from over-functioning in response to racial trauma, advocating for self-care and community support. Her message resonates with the ethos of our Caregiver Chronicles program, an initiative supporting caregivers in the Jane and Finch community. This program, like our podcast, is centered on empowering those who spend their days nurturing others, reminding us that our strength, stories, and well-being are paramount. As Woke Mommy Chatter resumes, it's not just about continuing the dialogue but redefining it, enriched with wisdom from our time apart. The podcast's return marks a new beginning where vulnerabilities are acknowledged, strengths embraced, and mutual support fostered in the journey of Black motherhood. Join us in this revitalized journey of Woke Mommy Chatter, where we explore the nuances of our experiences as Black mothers and emerge stronger together. The podcast is back, infused with a new perspective, ready to tackle vital conversations and support each other in healing and growth. Listen to Episode 1 of the Season 5 Woke Mommy Chatter podcast
