    Mar 30 2022

Episode #154 This WONDERFUL WOMEN’S WEDNESDAY, we continue to celebrate amazing women during Women’s History Month. Today we celebrate Madeleine Albright. Madeleine was the first woman to serve as U.S. Secretary of State (1997–2001).and a long-time public servant committed to serving the needs of women and girls. Born Marie Jana Korbel in Prague, Czechoslovakia [now in the Czech Republic], she lost 26 family members in the Holocaust. She also served as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations (1993–97). Madeleine joined Georgetown’s faculty in the School of Foreign Service in 1982. Nick Schifrin reports and Judy Woodruff speaks with former President Bill Clinton by phone to discuss her life and career. Secretary Albright inspired students not only to understand the world, but to serve the world. “I love teaching at Georgetown,” she said. “I’m sometimes known as ‘Secretary,’ but most of all I like being known as ‘Professor.'” said in her Georgetown University Class of 2019 Graduation speech. Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright says receiving the Medal of Freedom from President Barack Obama, the nation's highest civilian honor, left her "almost" speechless. Episode #152- This WONDERFUL WOMEN’S WEDNESDAY, we continue to celebrate amazing women during Women’s History Month. We celebrate 12 women who are honored as Time 2022 Women of the Year. I want to also acknowledge, coming out of Black History Month, that five African American women were named amongst the group, and they are: Allyson Felix, Amanda Gorman, Sherrilyn Ifill, Jennie Joseph, and Kerry Washington. According to Time, they were all selected because of their commitment to creating a better future for women, across generations, communities, and borders. In their respective fields, they fight for the rights of women, Black women specifically, and continuously strive toward making a more equal and just world. The entire list of all 12 are as follows with headings in TIME: Amal Clooney Won’t Back Down Allyson Felix on How Motherhood Made Her an Activist Kerry Washington on Why Women Must Become Their Own 'Olivia Popes' to Fix Politics Inside Amanda Nguyen’s Fight to Ensure Survivors’ Stories Are Taken Seriously History-Making Trans Actor Michaela Jaé Rodriguez Wants to Be the Example Amanda Gorman Wants You to Be Your Own Hero Why Sherrilyn Ifill Fights for Gender Equity in Civil Rights Battles Social Media Platforms Failed to Tackle Abuse. • SHA’ PTA’ - Wonderful Women’s History Month Wednesday- Celebrating Women
    Mar 3 2022

Episode #151 - This WONDERFUL WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH WEDNESDAY, we proudly celebrate amazing women. Women’s History Month is an annual declared month that highlights the contributions of women to events in history and contemporary society. It is celebrated during March in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia, corresponding with International Women's Day on March 8, and during October in Canada, corresponding with the celebration of Persons Day on October 18. The commemoration began in 1978 as "Women's History day" in Sonoma County California, and was championed by Gerda Lerner and the National Women's History Alliance to be recognized as a national week (1980) and then month (1987) in the United States, spreading internationally after that. In 1987, after being petitioned by the National Women's History Project, Congress passed Pub. L. 100-9 which designated the month of March 1987 as Women's History Month. Between 1988 and 1994, Congress passed additional resolutions requesting and authorizing the President to proclaim March of each year as Women's History Month. Since 1988, U.S. presidents have issued annual proclamations designating the month of March as Women's History Month. Did you know women couldn’t get their own credit cards until 1974?
