  • Guntersville Fishing Report: Ledges and Grass Holding Bass, Crappie Biting Near Cover
    May 7 2025
Good morning, anglers. This is Artificial Lure with your Lake Guntersville, Alabama fishing report for Wednesday, May 7, 2025.

We rolled into the day with sunrise at 5:51 a.m. and sunset set for 7:36 p.m., giving us plenty of daylight on the water. The weather is shaping up nicely – mild conditions, light breeze, and water temps holding steady in the mid-60s. Recent rain has helped keep the lake level stable, which is making navigation easy and keeping the fish active[5][1].

Bass are still the main event around Lake Guntersville this week. The post-spawn pattern is in full swing and the bite is shifting offshore. Most bass are pulling off the spawning flats and stacking up along the ledges, grass lines, and channel edges. Early mornings and late evenings are the ticket, with fish feeding hard during these low-light hours[3][5]. The shallow bite is still hanging on in isolated spots, especially in grass beds and around bluegill beds.

Crappie action remains strong near docks, brush piles, and bridge pilings. Anglers have been catching them on small jigs tipped with minnows, especially in 6 to 10 feet of water. Word is, a handful of limits came from the State Park area and near Waterfront[5][4].

Catfish are making appearances in the deeper channels. Folks are picking up decent numbers soaking cut bait or stink bait off the main river ledges.

Best Lures and Bait: Today, top picks for bass are deep-diving crankbaits, shaky head worms, and big swimbaits worked along the deeper grass and ledges. In the shallows or where you see bait busting, a topwater frog or popper can draw some explosive strikes. For crappie, stick with pink or chartreuse jigs, or just a plain old minnow under a float[5][4]. Catfish aren’t picky—cut shad or chicken livers will get the job done.

Hot Spots: Try the ledges near Goose Pond or the bridges at Browns Creek for bass. If you’re crappie fishing, hit the brush piles off Roseberry and the dock lights at night around the State Park[3][5].

No significant tides to worry about on Guntersville, so focus on those feeding windows at dawn and dusk. With fish moving and biting, it’s a prime time to get out—just remember to keep an eye on the weather and be safe on the water.

That’s the word from Lake Guntersville. Tight lines and hope you put a big one in the boat today.

  • Guntersville Galore: Spring Bass, Crappie, and Catfish Feast on Alabama's Primed Fishery
    May 5 2025
This is Artificial Lure, your boots-on-the-bank fishing expert reporting in for Monday, May 5th, 2025, here at beautiful Lake Guntersville, Alabama.

Let me paint you the scene: sunrise hit at 5:51 AM this morning, and you could feel that telltale spring humidity in the air. We’re in the sweet spot weather-wise with daytime highs touching the upper 70s, barely a breeze, and water temps hovering in the mid-60s. That’s prime time for both fish and fishermen. Skies are mostly clear today, so pack the sunscreen.

Lake Guntersville has been firing on all cylinders this past week. Bass fishing’s as hot as the griddle at the Huddle House. We’re still seeing a bunch of big largemouth cruising the shallows, especially around grassy mats and those submerged stumps that Guntersville is known for. Most of the bass are finishing up their spawn, and some are already shifting into post-spawn, so they’re hungry and looking to bulk up[2][1]. The action’s been steady—anglers are reporting 30 to 40 bass a day is not out of reach, with solid five-pounders mixed in. Plenty of quality over quantity, too[3][1].

Crappie are lighting it up as well, stacking up tight to brush piles and boat docks. The bite is classic spring—lively and reliable, especially with minnows or small jigs. If you’re after the cats, stick to the channels with cut bait or stink bait—several good blues and channels pulled up in the past few days[2].

Best baits right now: for bass, you can’t go wrong with a white chatterbait or a green pumpkin finesse worm around the grass lines and creek mouths. A popping frog over thick mats has drawn explosive strikes during the low-light hours. Try a crankbait in shad or bluegill colors along the deeper points; some nice post-spawn bass are lingering out there, too[1][2]. For crappie, go with a chartreuse or pink jig, or a live minnow under a slip float.

Hot spots this morning and for the rest of the week:
    - North Sauty Creek — bass hammering frogs and chatterbaits in the pads.
    - The causeways near Goose Pond — always a crappie producer in low light.
    - Seibold area grass beds — consistent for both bass and panfish.

No tides here, but remember, that bite window is strongest at first light and during the last hour before sunset, which will be at 7:35 PM tonight[2].

So get out there, cast till your arms are sore, and don’t forget to send in your fish pics. Tight lines from Artificial Lure, and I’ll see you on the water!

  • Guntersville Fishing Report May 4, 2025: Bass and Crappie Crushing It in Mild Conditions
    May 4 2025
This is Artificial Lure with your Lake Guntersville fishing report for May 4, 2025.

We woke up to a cool, clear morning on the Big G, with overnight temps still dipping a bit but not enough to chill the fishing action. Water temps are holding steady in the mid-60s, perfect for both bass and crappie as they stick close to the shallows and grass beds. Sunrise was right around 5:50 AM, and sunset will come just before 7:40 PM, giving you a prime window early and late in the day when fish are biting best.

The recent weather—cool nights with mild days—has kept things lively on the lake. A bit of wind has been moving through, but nothing too strong to keep folks off the water. No tidal swings here, so the levels have stayed relatively stable aside from some minor bumps from recent rain, and the water clarity is looking good in most spots.

Bass are finishing up their spawn but there are still plenty cruising those flats and grass lines in 3 to 6 feet of water. If you're after trophy largemouth, this is your moment. Folks have been catching good numbers and a handful of big females in hotspots like the north end around Goose Pond, and down toward the mid-lake milfoil stretches near Seibold and Waterfront. Buzzbaits and topwater frogs have been producing early, especially close to thick grass or mats. As the sun rises, switch over to soft plastics like Senkos and creature baits, or try slow-rolling a white swim jig along deeper edges and inside weedlines for reaction bites. Lipless cranks in shad or chrome are another solid pick when fish push out a bit deeper.

Crappie are just as hot right now, holding tight to brush piles and dock pilings, especially in the coves off the main channel. Try small jigs in white or chartreuse, or stick with live minnows for steady action. Several catches of 30-plus slabs have come from Roseberry and North Sauty creeks in the last week, with fish mostly in 5 to 10 feet of water.

Catfish are in their usual haunts along the channel swings and deeper holes, hitting cut bait and chicken livers, especially south of the causeway.

Your best bets for hot spots today are Goose Pond for bass and North Sauty for crappie, but any shallow grass flat from Seibold to the state park is worth a look. The bite has been strongest around dawn and the last couple hours before dark, with most anglers reporting steady action and plenty of fish to go around.

That wraps up your Guntersville update. Fish safe, keep your lines tight, and I’ll see you on the water.
