  • Tarot cards has been a journey of over 30 years for me. I took a two and a half day course to learn how to read tarot and I was hooked. At the time, I wanted to learn how to read tarot because I loved having my cards read and I wanted to demystify it, and also learn how to do it for myself and others.

    Since this was a new skill, I relied heavily on learning the cards and the positions in the spread. It was a memorization game. It took many years to be able to put the stories together, and even longer to get out of my head and trust my intuition (which I still struggle with).

    Tarot has been an exciting journey in my personal life. In my professional life, I am an instructional designer, course writer and digital content creator. Needless to say, it was a matter of time before I took on the personal project of sharing how I learned to read tarot cards, which truly was building on the basics - which is the symbolism of the cards.

    Taking my experience in adult learning and course writing coupled with my passion for reading cards, I created these three minute podcasts to help card readers learn as I did. Ok... they aren't EXACTLY 3 minutes. I'm not THAT good! But I am around that 2.5 to 3.5 minute mark, with special episodes sometimes being longer. Please know there is so much more to know, but this should give a beginner some basics.

    For people that already have a familiarity with the cards, taking in the podcast may be a great way to focus on the lessons. For those that would do better with accompanying visuals, I would recommend searching for the card for viewing in the deck, on your computer or phone. I have used the Rider Waite deck to build this podcast course, because it is the deck that I learned on, and it is still my favorite tarot card deck.

    Even though I love the woo woo nature of cards, astrology and numerology, it can be confusing when discussing the technical aspects of the cards, and flip flopping in and out of the fluff makes it hard to learn a new skill. This audio course sticks to point so that a person learning can stay in their left brain of "doing" instead of "feeling". I love the fluff and the feeling piece, but for me, I needed to learn the cards before I could lean into how I felt and to incorporate the woo woo on my spiritual path. And .... we can only do so much in three minutes, in the spirit of focusing on basics to start, and repeating key messages (like the suit!) to help them stick.

When The High Priestess reversed appears in a reading, it's a sign that you must focus on reconnecting with your Intuition. Do not let any external voices or doubts override your inner knowing. This card encourages you to trust that your instincts have value and to give them the space to guide you. It may also indicate that you need to pay attention to what's being kept hidden. Whether it's information you're not acknowledging or secrets being held by others, The High Priestess asks you to stay vigilant and seek out the truth.So, what is the best way to memorize The High Priestess in reverse? Tying the card to a personal experience helps me remember it. For example, my reversed High Priestess moment was when I needed to trust the universe that everything would be okay with respect to finding work. I moved from a city to a small rural town of 5,000 people. I needed to trust that even though there were fewer remote opportunities, there would always be one for me when I needed it. I suffered from a lot of self-doubt on the surface, but in my gut, I felt safe. Those nagging thoughts created a lot of stress that was completely unnecessary. I worked on my resilience and put energy into my projects utilizing the skills that so many clients have hired me for, such as course creation, this podcast, and promoting digital asset products. I also firmly believed that I could generate my own income while still looking for another contract. I felt cozy having my eggs in more than one basket. The high priestess reverse had me second guessing these positive thoughts with grappling and self-doubt. It's time to have faith in yourself and your path. Common traits of a reversed magician are procrastinating or simply failing to leverage your abilities. A reversed magician may take shortcuts instead of doing things correctly. It may indicate that you are dealing with someone using their charm or intellect to manipulate situations to their advantage. For example, my reversed Magician moment was a person my husband and I were dealing with, and we were trying to help this person out. My husband works in the winter and has the summer off, and this person worked with him on his crew in the winter. This person was a bit of a fast talker and always seemed to be hard on his luck. The story around this person was that he wanted to operate a landscaping business in the summer in the off-season. He was a charmer and, in my opinion, a dreamer. He spends lots of time sharing his big plans and creating trust with people through his stories. Unfortunately, we helped him by lending him some equipment to start things, and he disappeared with it. Someone we used to talk to regularly, vanished off the face of the earth with equipment. No more returning calls, texts, or emails. This person was just gone. We believed in this person's potential, but at the end of the day, they acted out of integrity. For example, my reversed Fool moment was deciding whether to move from a contract to an employee position. I was a contractor since 2006, and the temptation was there to take a leap of faith once the lockdowns started in twenty-twenty one. In theory, that is a good enough reason to take a leap of faith. However, the Fool reversed reminded me that I didn't have any facts. If contracts were available, I did not want to burn bridges by accepting an employee position. The short story is that I decided to take the employee position and not be tempted by the contract world unless something happened to my job. The company was sold after a few years, which led me back into the contract world. But I did stay true to my decision. I held onto the position without looking over the fence for something better or different.
