  • The 'Dog Man Star' era 1 - 'The Cover Of A Magazine, Select - October 1994'
    Jan 31 2025

Litter On The Breeze returns by paying its first visit to Suede in 1994. What could possibly go wrong? Today we flick through the pages of our first Music Monthly - namely the October 1994 edition of Select Magazine. After commemorating a poignant anniversary, I dive into an article in which Bernard What Used To Be In Suede gets discussed a lot...albeit not really by the band.

Time is also found to talk about Sugar, Massive Attack and, on about four occasions, Manic Street Preachers....

    Show Notes:

    Brett on Stilts.

    • The reference to my Top 100 albums was every bit as unplanned as it sounds! It just happened to be on the table opposite me. I should do something substantial with it really..

  • Episode 2: Scaling The Skies - The 'Suede' Era
    Jan 17 2025

Litter On The Breeze returns with our first foray into an album and an era, and it just happens to be that of the debut LP 'Suede'! All 100,000 copies sold in its first week of it. Today we are joined by our first ever guest, and one who was fortunate enough to be there at the time (whilst I was still in the realms of 'No Limit', Lucy! She was fortunate enough to be swept up in the whirlwind of SuedeMania at the time. We'll learn how she first came across the band, how she got on board, and the means by which the album was acquired on the very first day of release!

After that we take a detour-strewn trip around the album itself, picking out some of our favourite and our least favourite moments.

    Show Notes:

    • As a future guest on these shows has since gleefully informed me, the Mercury Music Prize came about as a wheeze on the part of Mercury Communications, a former 'rival' to British Telecom. Unless it was a side hustle, then it is indeed highly unlikely they ever made any "stereo gear". Yes, I thought they had something to do with Technics or the like! My Alba CD Player and I never liked award shows anyway...
    • I claw back some goodwill here though: it was indeed Badly Drawn Boy who threw away the winner's cheque at the Mercury Music Prize bash. I was right! (That gag would have been funnier had 'You Were Right' been on the album in question...Maybe). https://www.theguardian.com/music/2013/oct/31/gomez-ms-dynamite-m-people-mercury-prize-winnings
    • THAT 'Not The Nine OClock News' sketch. https://youtu.be/Xo6hdKsa6ls?si=Xqr9-_7g78PWANDI
    • The wonders of Zoom meant my microphone wasn't really picked up during the main bulk of the recording, so I had to rely on the trusty back-up. Perfectly audible, but if you notice a difference between the main show and the intro/outro, that'll be why!

  • Episode 1: Introducing The Pod and 'The Cover Of A Magazine' I.
    Jan 4 2025

Welcome to the first episode of 'Litter On The Breeze'! A brand new podcast which will, in time, have come to detail all-things Suede. Today, you will:

    • Learn how this podcast came about and what it aims to achieve
    • Hear an intentionally VERY brief list of facts re the band
    • Find out what to expect in the next few episodes of the show
    • Begin to gather some ideas on what you would like to hear in future episodes of the podcast!

After Introducing the Pod, proceedings proper begin with Rory taking a stroll through the cover article on the group from the 20th February 1993 edition of NME - and pull out many talking points contained within! Also expect mentions of The Fall, Rage Against The Machine and Nirvana (oh, and The Jesus Lizard)

    Show Notes:

    • This episode was pieced together from multiple recording sessions, hence the occasional uneven audio quality!
    • Recording took place before the announcement of 'Steve Lamacq MBE'.
    • Still waiting for some 'A New Morning' positivity.
