Loosely Philosophical

Auteur(s): Ryan Chloe and Ellis
  • Résumé

  • Ryan, Chloe, and Ellis tackle the hard, and likely unnecessary questions in life, with irreverent, over-educated and inexpert scrutiny. We take on relevant topics, peruse sections of salient philosophy, and deliberate the issues using our reading as a rough framework for how we approach our own meager understanding. We struggle to treat the philosophers, the work and the topics with proper dignity, but ultimately, we are only Loosely Philosophical.

  • Consciousness In the Modern Era
    Sep 1 2023

In this episode, Ryan, Chloe and Ellis face off against Descartes and his "I think therefore I am" line of philosophical reasoning, and muse about his use of God to solve any and all of his logical problems. From there we delve into questions about a hyper-scattered society and our struggle for mindfulness, give our own takes on the mind-body problem, explore the effects of an over-connected social media dominated collective consciousness, and disagree about the nature and meaningfulness of free will.

  • The Future of Work
    Jul 1 2023

In this episode we tackle Hannah Arendt's discussion of work in her book The Human Condition, and extrapolate her ideas into our own, wildly different lives, careers and experiences. We debate our thoughts on the Vita Activa vs. the Vita Contemplativa (working vs thinking life), where the course of work seems to be headed, and what would happen in a future where there is no more work to be done.
