Shermann Dilla Thomas is widely known as 6Figga_Dilla on TikTok, where he proves that history is more entertaining than fiction with appealing videos that never skimp out on the facts and context involved. In fact, he indulges in it. His work has not only caught the eyes of his over 65,000 followers, but also from news outlets and shows like Fox32 Chicago, WGN, The Today Show, The Kelly Clarkson Show, and plenty, plenty more. The kicker is that his coverage of historical events and news within Chicago is more informed and objective than 90% of the news you’ll find being produced by the aforementioned stations.

I sat down for a long chat with Dilla, where we talked about all things media literacy in the TikTok age, and even delved into his upcoming work with Chance the Rapper for a Netflix series that they’re writing and producing. Hip-hop has an overwhelming effect on his life too, with a Nipsey Hussle tattoo on his right arm and the writing inspirations he’s taken from Jay-Z show that one medium of entertainment can easily impact another, and for Dilla, it’s in a positive way.
