“Overoptimization is something that I’ve seen quite a bit. Really normalizing databases to make them fast, and then in order to do a report, you have to first have a process that pulls the data and makes a flat table, and now you’ve destroyed all the optimization that you created by having a highly-normalized database. So that’s another problem that I have dealt with and have seen quite often. And I think it’s interesting now that it’s become less of a thing – you don’t really see that anymore because databases are more highly optimized off the shelf, and I think folks have realized that we have to use this data. It’s going to get used, so let’s model it in a way that’s actually usable.”
