  • A History of Black Christianity in the United States
    Feb 11 2025
A Groundbreaking Portrait of African American Christianity The history of African American Christianity is one of the determined faith of a people driven to pursue spiritual and social uplift for themselves and others to God's glory. Yet stories of faithful Black Christians have often been forgotten or minimized. The dynamic witness of the Black church in the United States is an essential part of Christian history that must be heard and dependably retold. In this groundbreaking two-volume work, Walter R. Strickland II does just that through a theological-intellectual history highlighting the ways theology has formed and motivated Black Christianity across the centuries. Through his original research he has identified five theological anchors grounding African Americans in Christian orthodoxy: Big God Jesus Conversion and walking in the Spirit The Good Book Deliverance In volume 1, a narrative history, Strickland tells the story of these themes from the 1600s to the present. He explores the crucial ecclesiastical, social, and theological developments, including the rise of Black evangelicalism as well as broader contributions to politics and culture. Swing Low offers a defining rubric under which to observe, understand, and learn from the diverse and living entity that is African American Christianity. Volume 2, a companion anthology, covers the breadth of these historical developments by presenting primary-source documents so we can listen to Black Christianity in its own words. Walter R. Strickland II (PhD, University of Aberdeen) is associate professor of systematic and contextual theology at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He has coauthored or contributed to several books, including For God So Loved the World: A Blueprint for Kingdom Diversity. He is a host of the White Horse Inn podcast and founder of Cultural Engagement and Aptree Learning.

The Christian School and Philanthropy delves deeply into how school leaders can raise transformational philanthropic dollars. At times story telling, at times grittily detailed, at times reflective, we challenge secular assumptions about donor motivation, the nature of the donor, and typical fund-raising scenarios. Currently, I Oversee All Areas of Our Business. I interact with everyone in the office daily to ensure that every customer is receiving the best possible experience. I am directly involved with marketing, production, casting, sales, training, and internal operations. I am always available to customers and make certain that each is treated as though they are the most important one that Edge Studio has regardless of how much money they spend. Started Edge Studio by myself and continue to grow the operation to a team of very impressive experts Partnered with related businesses to further expand the suite of services offered to customers Pride myself on only being an email or phone call away from any customer with any question or concern they have Speak at numerous industry events and actively work within the business and our team AM PROUD that Edge Studio maintains a level of recognition and professionalism currently achieved by very few companies David’s Background David grew up playing piano and drums. During grade school, he sold his Matchbox car collection to buy a MIDI keyboard. Soon after he was performing with an all-adult orchestra for the show, Godspell. By high school, his bedroom was full of keyboards, keytars, and drums. In college, he bought a 4-track recorder and began recording and mixing local bands, leading to the creation of Edge Studio! After college, he engineered at a major studio, worked on multiple albums with Deep Purple, learned to twirl drumsticks from Liberty DeVitto (Billy Joel’s drummer – see photo), recorded José Feliciano, Joe Lynn Turner, and Gary Moore. Simultaneously his own Edge Studio was expanding to national acts. So David went solo, co-writing and playing with John Mayer (keys, drums, recording, and mixing), mixing for Mel Tormé, and releasing over 150 albums! In 2007, David transitioned Edge Studio to a drug-free studio environment, which turned away many big bands. So he adapted to voice over. And Edge Studio V2 was born! On a personal note, I consider myself a very lucky husband and a proud dad to two incredible sons. I’m also the happy owner of two snorty English Bulldogs who love to drool around the house! And every day at 4:30am, I’m a (sometimes limping) triathlete.
