  • The Adam Project (2022) - Healing the Inner Child
    Dec 1 2024
Summary (created by NotebookLM AI - damn...it got it right and saved me a lot of brain power!)

This podcast episode from Movies Are Mythology, a Think Spiritual podcast, features Mark Stratton and Michael Bolton discussing the Netflix film The Adam Project.

They analyze the film's themes of grief, trauma, and personal growth, highlighting the interplay between younger and older versions of the main character as they confront their pasts.

The conversation explores the film's use of time travel not as a means to alter the past, but as a metaphor for self-reflection and healing. Finally, the hosts relate the film's themes to broader concepts of personal journeys and the process of self-acceptance.

  • Dredd (2012) - A Good Feminist Film
    Nov 4 2024
Is it possible that 2012's Dredd is not actually about Judge Dredd?

What if it's about the battle for one woman's soul?

Join Michael Bolton and Mark Stratton as they watch Dredd (with much pausing for discussion).

Reasons why Dredd is a feminist film (and why it's a GOOD one):
    1) Dredd never takes control. Every step is Anderson's decision whether Dredd thinks she's right or not.
    2) She rescues herself twice and rescues Dredd as well.
    3) Mama and Dredd are shadows Anderson could become should she embrace an ideology - which she does not do.
    4) Anderson does not revel in killing/destruction and takes the path of compassion when appropriate.

    Production Note
My apologies for the background hum. It was an an electric fireplace that basically sent its motor-hum straight up the microphone stand. I tried to noise-reduce it, but that dropped all the bottom-end out of the recording and made it sound hollow.

    Oct 28 2024
Is it possible that Thor: Love and Thunder was highly misunderstood?

What if it's not a comedy? What if it's a story of one woman's battle with cancer and she must raise up her Inner Hero to fight it?

Join Michael Bolton and Mark Stratton around (a rather aggressive) campfire once again as they continue their 4-hour marathon-discussion about one of their favourite MCU Heroes, Thor Odinson.

  • Joker (2019)
    Sep 9 2024
While this conversation between Michael Bolton and Mark Stratton is not a very in-depth analysis of Joker, it is a good juxtaposition for the previous talk about The Batman and could be a good stepping stone for a future talk about the upcoming Joker 2.

  • The Batman (2022)
    Sep 8 2024
The Batman was a movie that surprised us all. While many touted how wonderful it was to finally see Bruce Wayne/Batman do some actual detective work, Michael, Christine, and Mark were astounded to actually see Batman move beyond the loops and cycles of behaviour that he is (almost) always locked into.

The Batman should change the arc of every Batman film to follow in the future and it absolutely proves how Movies Are Mythology and how mythology needs to change with society and with time.

Join Michael Bolton, Christine Cartwright, and Mark Stratton as they discuss 2022's, The Batman.
