    Amy Lees started the NowWhat?! Podcast in January 2023, she is also an Energy Strategy Consultant. She started University studying Maths and Economics, but dropped out in second year before a summer internship in banking. She then went back to study Economics, interned in Energy Trading and when she graduated went on to do a grad scheme in Energy Trading. She then left to work at a start up as a Product Specialist. Interviewed by Loz Thorpe (Ep.1 of the NowWhat?! Podcast), an interesting episode on resilience and continuous learning.

  • Ep. 9 Ella Brown on studying medicine, taking a gap year and working as a junior doctor

    When Ella Brown first decided she wanted to be a doctor she didn't want to tell anyone, but after choosing science A-Levels and gaining the relevant experience she sent off her applications. In her first attempt she failed to get a place and felt devastated at the rejection, but after using her gap year to gain more experience and travel she gained a place at Barts Uni to study medicine. Realising she wasn't behind as she had feared, she enjoyed her time and intercalating with a degree in Global Health. Finally she talks us through what is next as a junior doctor, the impact COVID had and deciding her specialty. A great listen and really interesting insight into what studying to be a doctor is really like.

  • Ep. 8 Rokas Chlevickas on identity, military service and mentorship within workplaces

    Rokas Chlevickas was born in Lithuania but grew up between there and London, after studying his undergrad in London he realised he was on the maybe list for military service back in Lithuania! After deciding to volunteer and spending a year there completing this he came back to London to pursue a masters in the politics around Oil and Gas. Currently working in a analytics/tech company as a commercial analyst, Rokas takes us through his struggle with identity and how mentorship in the workplace has helped shape his career.

  • Ep.7 Emma Lees on studying to be a teacher, tackling deafness and navigating a degree during COVID-19

    Emma Lees was diagnosed as partially deaf at 4 years old. She went through primary and secondary school as a deaf student at a mainstream school. She swam for Deaf GB in Russia, as part of the European Championship, before getting injured and missing the Worlds. She discusses her experience through school, university and swimming and the lessons she learnt through her disability. Emma is now training to be a teacher and hopes to inspire the next generation! A really fascinating episode of disability, competitive sport and finding the correct level of support at university.

    When Duncan Harper picked his A-Levels he was pressured into more academic subjects and neglected his creative side, after retaking and then choosing to study Geography at Liverpool John Moores he decided to follow his interest into the hospitality industry. After working in events he then moved into his dream job as a Brand Ambassador for Fireball and travelled all round the country running events and promoting the brand. After COVID closed the hospitality industry he set up an ecommerce business then went and helped set up a new pub in London. Now back in the supply side of the Alcohol industry and working for a brand he is passionate about, Duncan takes us through his journey, the ups and the downs and how he got to where he is now.

  • Ep.4 'Sarah' on working as a military nurse, studying an English degree and being a part of the OTC

    After 'Sarah' (not real name) finished her English degree in Sheffield she was at a crossroads for where to go next! During her first degree she had been a part of the University Officer Training Corps in Sheffield and decided to go into nursing through the military, which required studying for another degree for 3 years in Birmingham. Sarah was still studying when COVID hit and this changed her studies and placements drastically. Now graduated and working as a military nurse near London she talks about what its like and how the military supported her buying her first home!

    When Pranali Jagasia was deciding where to go to university, after studying at a boarding school in India, she was picking between America and England but the reputation of American university life intrigued her too much to ignore! She chose a university where she could undertake internships and managed to work with the NFL and go to the Super Bowl but also interned with Vogue in India and ended up quitting within weeks. Now working in London in social media marketing, Pranali tells her story of living, studying and working around the globe and her dream of being an influencer.
