  • “Should Christians Watch The Chosen??”
    Feb 21 2025

Some Christians believe the TV series The Chosen veers too far from the biblical story. Is it leading people astray or closer to Jesus? Dr. J, Perry, and Shawna give their takes on this.

Biblical scholar Dr. Jeremy Grinnell joins the team to answer bible questions. Jeremy earned his PhD in Systematic Theology from Calvin Seminary and taught seminary in West MI for 15 years.

Other great questions in the podcast:

The New Testament seems to suggest that only men can be elders. So Stephanie asks, “How can Bible believing churches justify having women elders?

“And if male and female are equal in Christ, how are we to know our roles in marriage?” Also Sarah shares, “Please explain how Jesus can be God when God refers to Jesus as his Son.”

Chris says, “Please unpack the passage in the Sermon on the Mount about settling matters quickly. What if one party doesn't want to reconcile? And if they don’t want to reconcile, should I keep trying?”

And Lyn shares, “God is love, full of mercy and grace. Yet, the Bible says God gets angry, punishes people, causes people to be ill, and even causes and allows people's hearts to be hard. How do we explain this to unbelievers?”

And “Is God still punishing people and causing people's hearts to be hard? If God is causing hard hearts how can they come to accept Jesus as their Savior?”

    We’re glad you asked. 😊

  • “We Are Really Good at Beating Ourselves Up” – Dan Seaborn
    Feb 20 2025

"The Lord will keep in perfect peace the one who steadfastly trusts in him" (Isa. 26:3). Much easier said than done. How do we get there?

Dan Seaborn, the founder of Winning At Home points the way! And this is something Dan has learned and is learning!

The first step to this kind of peace is to quit trying to prove to God that you love him. How do we get there? By encouraging one another like Dan does for Perry!

Then, much of Dan’s anxiety started as a child when he didn’t know what version of his dad would show up. The angry one or the peaceful one.

Next Perry reflects, “Maybe this hardship in my life right now just needs to stay cause it’s rooting out the pride in my heart and it’s taking me to a deeper trust.”

Last, Dan admits, “I get depressed!” And when he does he transfers his trust from himself to God.

  • “Now I know Why Jesus CANNOT Be the Messiah”
    Feb 19 2025

That’s what a Jewish attorney said to David after reading Jesus’ words from the cross, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” He reasoned that no Messiah would say that.

What this attorney didn’t realize was that Jesus was quoting Psalm 22 which is one of the most compelling prophecies pointing to Jesus as Messiah! We kick of the podcast with this story.

David Brickner of Jews For Jesus joins us with a conversation around his latest book, Does the Jewish Bible Point To Jesus: 12 Key Prophecies That Unfold God’s Plan.

Also we hear the story of David making the case for Christ with the late Larry King of Larry King Live. Also David unpacks the first prophecy of a Messiah from Gen. 3:15.

David shares his story of being raised in a family of Jews for Jesus and why he initially walked away from Him. And we talk about how vital it is to preach the love of God to ourselves.

We hear about the hunger for Jesus that has emerged of out of the horror of October 7th 2023 in Israel. And how the carol, “O Little Town of Bethlehem” led to a world-wide movement to reach Jews for Jesus.

  • “I Had Such a Hunger For Pornography”
    Feb 13 2025

Perry didn’t think he’d ever be free from porn as a teen. But there came a day on a sunny, summer afternoon driving down Western Avenue in Cheboygan that he realized he was free. And the freedom didn’t come trying harder.

Shawna admits, “All my life I’ve believed the lie, ‘You need more.’ More clothes, more education, more clicks, more follows, more wins.” But she’s finding a way out of the tyranny of this lie!

Then, don’t lose heart! And how that’s possible when it’s so hard. Next, Perry’s always looking for open doors to share Jesus. And just this past Sunday a door opened wide and he fell flat on this face.

Last, Perry, Shawna, and Ben had a moment in the studio as the first song out the gate was Engedi Music’s “Glory.” No one took off their headphones as the Spirit poured living water into their thirsty hearts.

  • “She’s Living the Dream, and I Hate Her” - Shawna
    Feb 12 2025

It’s easy to look around you and compare yourself to others – to want a seat at the cool kids table. Shawna admits that she compares herself with the person she thinks she should be. God’s helping her to see that she already has a seat at the table with and in Christ Jesus. (Ephesians 2:6)

Perry shares, “On Sunday I didn’t feel like getting up for church, lifting my hands in worship, going to visit a hurting friend, but I chose to.” It’s a conversation about not just speaking the gospel but living it. But it’s not about try harder religion; it’s about the power to live what we speak.

The story of our lives is heading toward that great day when “All the sad things come untrue.” Perry got a glimpse of that on Sunday as he watched 3 Malaysian Jesus followers worship Jesus.

What was your first thought this morning? Was it excitement? Dread? Was it angsty? Whatever this day holds you can be excited about the day because you are seen, known and loved by the God of the universe who keeps all of His promises!

  • Her Last Words, “It’s Real. It’s Real”
    Feb 11 2025

Doubts are real but so is heaven. At the end of her life she began to wonder if she was good enough to go to heaven. Then she spoke her final words and all doubt was put to rest.

Perry shares, “Last Sunday I didn’t feel like getting up for church, didn’t feel like raising my hands in worship, didn’t feel like visiting my suffering friend. Before crawling into bed Sunday night I got on my face praying ‘Lord help.’ “

Shawna’s daughter Haven was afraid. Shawna wanted to be there for her every second, but couldn’t. Then God sent a tatted up guy to be there for Haven and the message on his tattoo proved that God was completely in it.

What if being “in Christ,” is more than a theological idea? What if it’s more like being immersed in an ocean of love where you’re so seen, known, loved, and safe that there’s no way you can ever be separated from it?

Is believing a lie a sin? Is an apology a confession? Perry and Shawna wrestle out what it means to come into agreement with God and His truth.
