  • This passage highlights the beginning of God's people with the selection of Abraham. God instructs Abraham to leave his home, promising to create a great nation from him and make him a blessing to the world by spreading the knowledge of God.

    The central theme is that God's people are meant to benefit the world, which is repeated in Matthew 5, where Jesus describes his followers as the salt of the earth and the light of the world. One way we accomplish this is through worship. In doing so, we orient and align ourselves to God and this is what enables us to trust in Him even when the way before us is unclear.
