Alrighty, we swim right on into deeper waters today, but I've tried to make the surface as smooth as possible for you. Daniel chapter 7 is the first of Daniel's apocalyptic visions (and you'll learn the real meaning of apocalypse in this episode!).

He sees a lion, bear, and leopard...and he sees a beast he has no earthly reference for, and for a change, Daniel doesn't understand this vision. He receives some heavenly assistance to make sense of all of it, and in the end, he's left weak with the knowledge he receives.

I know apocalyptic literature is something not everyone is keen on, so I've tried to make it as simple as possible without watering it down, so give Daniel chapter 7 a read if you haven't already, then have a listen to this episode and see if helps give YOU a clearer vision.

Today we transition from the familiar childhood stories in the book of Daniel to the more "adult" writing we call apocalyptic literature.

Often this transition intimidates people, and they sort of abandon ship because they think it's going to be too difficult. But not us here at She Walks Worthy, right? We are in it for the entire journey!

Can you read the writing on the wall? What does it tell you?

We have probably never experienced the supernatural event that King Belshazzar experienced, being given a divine message from a disembodied hand, writing a message of divine judgement for not JUST a moment of drunken bad decision making, but a lifetime of flying in the face of God.

But there probably have been times when we've "seen the writing on the wall," and thanks to passages like Daniel 5, we've been given the wisdom to understand God's warning. It's part of being sober minded. That's one of the big lessons from today's study.

How well do you know the story of Daniel chapter 4? I confess, I had a surprise at the end.

King Nebuchadnezzar has had another dream and asks Daniel to interpret it for him. For good reason, Daniel is hesitant. If Nebuchadnezzar won't humble himself and seek the righteousness of God, the dream is a warning of weighty judgement.

Yes, Nebuchadnezzar was an instrument in God's hand to bring judgement against Judah, but Nebuchadnezzar was also responsible before God for his actions. It's the great paradox that our limited human minds wrestle with.

As we get deeper and deeper into the Book of Daniel in our weekly Bible study, we get to know King Nebuchadnezzar in a more personal way: we know he can be brutal, we know his character, we know he loves his power and authority. We also know he has some insecurities. For all of his vanity, it seems he knows down deep there is something he is supposed to know, but he hasn't been able to grasp it yet.

He has another lesson to learn this week in Daniel chapter 4. Unlike his last dream in chapter 2, a prophecy that will take place in "the latter days," we get to see the full impact of this dream.
