  • Working Dogs in the Suburbs and Review of South Lawson Waterfall Circuit Loop in Lawson NSW, Australia
    Oct 26 2022

Many dog breeds are content to just lie beside you on the couch or lay in your lap.  They require some activity, but not constant stimulation.  Working dogs like German Shepherds, Kelpies, and Border Collies, however, are different and require regular stimulation.  Without stimulation, working dogs have a tendancy to be troublemakers and can be very mischievious.   While these dogs do best on a farm or in wide open spaces, it is possible to have one of these dogs in the suburbs.

Tune into episode 16 to hear from Erin Nield, dog mom to @scarletthesydneykelpie, to learn tips regarding how to set you and your working dog up for success if you live in the suburbs or city.

And, if you are looking for an international adventure spot, Erin provides a wonderful review of the South Lawson Waterfall Circuit Loop in Lawson NSW, Australia.

  • The Dangers of Sand Impaction and Review of Mammoth Lakes, CA
    Jun 29 2022

Do you have a pup who loves to play in the ocean, loves to play fetch in the sand, or loves to dig holes in the sand?  Did you know that these activities can pose a life threatening risk for your furry friend?

On episode 12 of the Snorts, Slobber, & K9 Adventures Podcast, Jane Kleinberger (dog mom to @kino.thehighlifedog) shares a horrifying story about how a few hours of frolicking on the beach almost cost Kino his life.

Prior to talking with Jane, I had never heard of sand impaction, did not realize how common it is for dogs, and definitely didn’t know that my dog could die from it!

This was such an eye opening episode for me and is an episode every dog parent needs to hear.  Jane does a wonderful job of sharing her story and providing tips for how to keep your dog safe.

And if you are looking for a dog friendly adventure spot in California, you are going to want to hear Jane's fantastic review of Mammoth Lakes.

Mammoth Lakes is a year-round resort town located high in the Eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains about 5 hours from LA and 3 hours from Reno, NV, and only an hour away from Yosemite!   With an abundance of lakes and streams fed by the slow melting of the snowcap, it is also home to some great hiking spots for you and your pup as well as a great spot for fishing and mountain biking. Year-round the night sky provides a fantastic light show that humans and dogs will enjoy – especially during periods of meteor showers like the Perseids and Geminids!

Episode 10 of the Snorts, Slobber & K9 Adventures Podcast and is all about @tonkas_journey a truly adorable and amazing adventure dog.

Tonka had a rough start to life.  He was born with bilateral elbow luxation, which means he was unable to use his front legs.  He was born to an inexperienced backyard breeder who couldn’t afford to pay for his medical needs.  Fortunately, that breeder was compassionate enough to surrender him to a rescue so he could get the care he needed.

After several surgeries and lots of physical therapy, Tonka landed with Naja Mueller and is not only living his best life, he has become an adventure dog extraordinaire.  Yes, he still has some mobility issues, but Tonka doesn't let that slow him down.  For those who think special needs dogs can’t adventure, well, you haven’t met Tonka.  He rides ATVs, he swims, he uses a wagon to explore trails, and he makes everyone who meets him smile.

One of Tonka’s favorite adventure spots is the Pattaconk Reservoir Loop Trail in CT, and Naja gives some great insight into why this is a trail you may want to check out.
