THE CHAIR (S1/Ep18) — Apple, like the Green One

    Hello Beautiful People,

    I’m Your Host Dreme.

I’m a Black woman, an educator turned tech entrepreneur but still an educator. Building a platform called THE CHAIR is a Black and Brown centered tech platform dedicated to supporting people on their hair journey. You can design hairboards, connect to hair stylists, and share hair care tips all in one space for a more joyous and streamlined experience. I built THE CHAIR Podcast to highlight hair journeys. A reminder to keep creating magic. As people sit in THE CHAIR you will get more than just hair stories. You will be immersed into experiences surrounding education, entrepreneurship, and identity. I hope you enjoy listening to my stories and the stories of my guests as we sit in THE CHAIR.

THE CHAIR (S1/Ep18) — Apple, like the Green One

I was a 3rd grade teacher in Guangzhou, China. I had a student named Apple. This episode is about an interaction with her while I was teaching a Compare/Contrast lesson on Hairspray. Apple became my teacher that day and it is a lesson I will remember for the rest of my life.

Nsika and I met in college. She was my partner on the dance floor when we met up in the basements, the dorm rooms, and the ACPs (all campus parties). She was also a beautiful theater performer as well. She has now moved from working from entertainment into philanthropy.

Having been raised in many cultures and environments, Nsika has had quite a journey with her hair. Learning to link her identity and love of herself through her hair, Nsika celebrates the intersection of heritage and self-expression through a deep passion for hair. She views her hair as a powerful medium to honor identity, culture, and heritage. Her relationship with her hair is one of exploration, embracing the beauty of individuality and a people, while celebrating the misadventures, transformations of her own journey. Come listen as Nsika sits in THE CHAIR.

THE CHAIR (S1/Ep12) — Can YOUR People Eat This..?

Cheryl Kiser grew up in the 50's with parents who were activists and serial advocates in areas of health, politics, food, civil and human rights. Cheryl started the Institute for Social Innovation 14 years ago with no road map except incredible and durable relationships and a vision for a place where students could unapologetically challenge the role of business in society. Her vision was to cultivate leaders who would use the power of entrepreneurship and business to advocate actively for equitable, responsible and values-driven practices within all organizations. Her passion is to influence and support our leaders to create businesses that address society's most urgent unmet needs through market-based strategies.

This episode Cheryl Kiser discusses her Jewish identity, whiteness, and how she thinks about DEI with me.
