THE SOUND OF A CRUSHED ALABASTER BOX: Hearing the Heart of Worship

  • Résumé

  • WAIT CONFERENCE 2025|| UNDERSTANDING WORSHIP BEYOND MUSIC|| SESSION 9|| CHIMDI M. OHAHUNA This is the ninth session of the WAIT Conference ’25, we will continue deeper into the heart of worship! Discover what true worship truly entails as we build on the foundations laid in previous sessions and our anchor scripture is, Romans 12:1. In this session, we are shifting our focus to a powerful definition of worship: unashamedly pouring out our inner selves upon Jesus in a loving and affectionate way. Together, let us explore why so many Christians struggle with this level of devotion. We will uncover the spiritual battles outlined in Romans 8 that seek to distract us and hinder our complete surrender to Christ. This isn’t just about religious activity; it’s about heartfelt devotion – pouring out our whole being to the Lord. We will examine how devotion to anything other than Jesus, be it things or issues, becomes a distraction, a detour orchestrated by Satan. This is where the understanding of the “alabaster box” comes into play. Referencing the familiar story from Mark 14:3, we’ll unpack the symbolism of the alabaster box as representing our own flesh. To truly worship, we must break this box, pouring out its costly contents (our very selves) upon Jesus. This isn’t a one-time event but an ongoing process of surrender. This message challenges the notion of superficial devotion. While devotionals can be helpful, they pale in comparison to living a life devoted to Christ, a life where we lose ourselves to gain Him. This is dying to the flesh so that we can truly live for Christ. We will unpack what it truly means to have our “alabaster box shattered beyond repair” and how this leads to a holistic experience of worship that renders the devil’s distractions powerless. This session also dispels the myth that God humbles the proud – instead, the Bible reveals He resists the proud by opposing their will. True worship is born out of a crushed flesh, not just the performance of religious rituals. Finally, we will connect the dots, revealing that the crushing of our alabaster box is not a brutal act, but one that is engendered by a spirit overflowing with the Word of God, a spirit that is made fuller than our flesh. It is in the crushing of our flesh that true, wholehearted worship is found. Tune in to discover the power of shattering your alabaster box and embrace a life of dedicated, passionate worship. This episode will challenge, equip, and inspire you to deeper devotion to Jesus.
